And like it’s like you already alluded to there Kevin, not a ton of news really happening this week, which again is a good thing this time of year but we did have some trades happen. So that’s always interesting. The Steelers and the bears exercise some fifth year options on some former first round picks. The Steelers X’s exercise in the fifth year option on Minka Fitzpatrick. The Bears exercising the fifth year option on row Kwan Smith, the dolphins and the Washington football team trade Eric flowers and then they swap first round What a mess muted
Kevin 05:03
glitching late rounds not first rounds
Derek 05:07
I’m sorry. Yep, I did did write that and just missed it. My bad, my bad y’all. Thanks for the catch there the Chiefs traded the 31st overall a third rounder and a fourth rounder, and then a 2022 5th rounder to the Ravens for Orlando Brown Jr. A second rounder and a 2022 six rounder. The Eagles coach also coming out this last week saying that the quarterback position is going to be an open competition heading into camp this year. Kevin, what was your thoughts around the news?
Kevin 05:41
I guess. First and foremost, Roquan Smith for the bears absolute no brainer. He was a guy that when he came out four years ago, I was pounding the table for the Broncos to try and find a way like we are so linebacker starved here in Denver at the moment that he was the guy won the Broncos to go get he didn’t actually fall to the Broncos that year and for them to move up would have been too. Too much of a reach at that point. So super happy for ro Kwan. He will forever be a dog in my heart and did a lot things for the University of Georgia. So I love following him. Minkah Fitzpatrick, the crazy. Here’s the crazy thing about Minkah Fitzpatrick. He’s only been he’s been with the Pittsburgh Steelers for about a year and a half. And most people forget that he ever played in Miami. And the funny thing is when that trade happened, the Steelers actually got fried a little bit. Like why are you giving up a first round pick for this guy. And he came to Pittsburgh and really helped submit the back half of that defense. He’s a ball Hawk. He has that ability to he just has a nose for the end zone with the ball in his hands like he’s just special to watch. So good for the Steelers. Good for Minkah Fitzpatrick No, it was kind of cool. The dolphins the dolphins Washington trade. There’s got to be more to this that hasn’t been brought to life yet or brought to the surface yet because in in all regards, Eric flowers is going to start start for the Washington Redskins. And watch all they did are Yes, sorry, the football team. And then all they’re doing is swapping late round picks. Now, that could be you know, a fifth or seventh or something like that incentive base depending on performance, that type of thing. But what the dolphins also did was they just restructured Eric flowers contract last week. So what it was they signed last. Before the 2020 season, they signed into a three year $30 million deal. Then they just restructured it to go from a $9 million cap pit they restructured it so they paid out a $6 million bonus to him two days ago, I believe it was and all the Washington football team has to do is pay the last $3 million $3 million for starting garden like there’s something about this trade. That just makes me scratch my head a little bit like I just I don’t quite understand it. The Washington made out like a bandit. They move back late round picks whoopty freaking do and they get a starting offensive lineman to help out. You know whether it’s Ryan Fitzpatrick or tiny key, whoever is going to be the starting quarterback there but they help cement that offensive line so good for them. But the Deal of the Week was the chiefs. The Chiefs getting Orlando Brown is huge. As I’m pretty sure everyone knows they ran into massive offensive line issues in the AFC Championship game really throughout the playoffs, which finally caught up to them in the Super Bowl when they lost the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Then they didn’t bring back Eric Fisher and they didn’t bring back I believe shorts, this the center, right because they switched everybody around so they didn’t bring back their center. And they didn’t bring back here Fisher who had started all but three games for them since they drafted him. And they bring in Orlando Brown Jr, who was unhappy in Baltimore and everything he has been saying since being traded to Kansas City. He is he’s putting a lot of gusto and excitement behind that trade. So we’ll see if he can own up to that on the field. But he’s super excited to be there. He’s super excited to be blocking for Patrick Mahomes and being a part of probably the most prolific and dynamic offense in the NFL today.
Derek 09:55
Yeah, the one that was a little interesting to me though, too, was the fact that you had Siriani coming out saying that the the quarterback position is going to be an open competition out there in Philadelphia when they just traded away the guy that really could compete for that one, you know, you look at it you bring in Joe Flacco to to try and push and compete with Jalen hertz for a starting job and you know, quite frankly, I you know, the guy that lost the job to Drew Lock I’m I’m not gonna sit there and go oh my oh my Yep, let’s let’s go on this one and sign up for that ride. Um, I don’t know, like, this is one of those that it doesn’t make sense to me when you’re, you know, when you’re the leader of a franchise and a leader of an organization where you come out and just put some doubt out there as to who the guy is going to be. You You sit there and you plant your flag on that hill and you move on. Because unless you’re going to take a quarterback early on, what are you doing?
Kevin 10:55
That it’s Philadelphia, and they can’t help but piss and moan no matter what they’re doing. Sorry Eagles fans, but I think most true Philadelphia fans realize it like they’re pretty picky. Like and we all as sports fans have a vested interest in our teams and and how they do it. But what what the hell like you don’t have a quarterback on the roster, currently free agent period. I guess the bulk of it has passed, right? They’re still gonna be signings after the draft and fill in roster spots and everything else, but you’re not going to find a guy out there to just fill in and all of a sudden compete with Jalen hertz like Joe Flacco and Jalen hertz, have such different skill sets that how do you even truly measure a competition at that level? Like Flacco might throw the ball slightly better because he can dissect defenses a half a second faster? Okay, that’s fine. Well, when Jalen hertz gets pressured, he can scramble and pick up 35. So, I mean, which would you rather have the young energetic quarterback who really kind of rejuvenated that Eagles team towards the tail end of the season, or Joe Flacco who has bounced around between three teams in the last three years and quite frankly, is it looks older than what he is? And really, I don’t even know that he quite deserves to be on the NFL roster at this point. compared to some of the youth and talent that’s coming up in the ranks.
Derek 12:29
Yeah. Yeah, it’ll be interesting to see what they what they do it, you know, makes me even more curious what they’ve got planned for number 12. In the draft, you know, when they when they draft number 12, here in a couple of days, so, uh, yeah, it’ll be very interesting to see how that comes to play. I’m very excited about Orlando Brown, getting the chance to really play left tackle, which he did a very good job last year, filling in over there, he Baltimore, it’s one of those that it’ll be interesting to see to what Baltimore does here in a couple of days when you’re talking about the draft, and you’re talking about addressing that line, because Orlando Brown was a big anchor point on that on that team as well and had been for the last couple of years. So I think that they very much cemented the fact that they’re going to be looking to draft a lineman with at least one of those picks coming up here. And you know what, I know a guy and that just mocked that they would do that on our last mock. So Kevin had that pick, and I think you have Alex leatherwood. Go in there if I’m if I’m not mistaken.
Kevin 13:36
Yeah. Now leatherwood played Center at Alabama, but he has guard tendencies. So that’ll help fill in some of that. I don’t know that he’s the most natural fit to fill the gap that the Ravens need. But offensive line is one of those positions that a the hit rate on offensive lineman is so much higher than it is on skilled position players. So it’s a safer pick. As far as leading towards production on the field and be a these interior, these interior linemen, you want guys who can swing from center to garden inside and outside a little bit. So he does provide a little bit of flex there that, quite frankly, every team needs and worth where Baltimore’s picking unless they package both first round picks to move up, which I don’t see happening. That’s not their MO. I think Leatherwood’s probably the the right guy that they’re going to take there at the end of the first round now.
2021 NFL Draft Risers Fallers
Derek 14:41
I absolutely agree with that pick, and I think that’s the way that they’ll go. Yeah, speaking of the draft, we’re gonna do a little segment on the draft tonight where we’re talking, you know, the risers and the followers as far as draft stock goes, and that’s where we’ll go ahead and head on over to so yeah, Kevin, you know, before we went on to The on on the air tonight and talking this one through, you’re we’re talking it’d be, you know, a fun little idea to try and talk about, you know, whose draft stock has really risen over the last, you know, couple of weeks couple of days here leading up to this whose draft stock has really kind of fallen here and you really made some interesting thoughts here as you’re heading into Thursday and heading into draft day. So let’s go ahead and kick it back over to you who is your biggest riser when it comes to the NFL Draft here in a couple of days?
Kevin 15:33
If If this plays out the way that so many people in in the industry I think it will the biggest riser has to be Matt Jones right like he’s a guy that three weeks ago people weren’t even talking about him in the first round like you had the big four and then Matt Jones might fall to the Patriots or you know a team might trade back up at the end of the first round to get that 5th year option on a quarterback and and he has gone from kind of that mid for mid or excuse me that first second round swing grade that a lot of players get all the way up to number three because it appears that the San Francisco 49ers um but that he’s he’s their guy which right wrong or indifferent is just kind of Jimmy Garoppolo 2.0 and a lot of different ways but you know what, if that’s what Kyle Shanahan thinks he needs to do to try and get the 49ers back to the Super Bowl than Far be it for me to tell someone like Kyle Shanahan he’s doing his job wrong.
Derek 16:38
Fair enough. Fair enough. Fair enough. Um, what about fallers? Who do you get it? Yeah, so far in the draft capital isn’t necessarily holding like we had expected even a month ago.
Kevin 16:52
So I’m going to group I’m gonna group some folks in together because I think especially in our fantasy football industry, right we get super excited about skill position players and and where they’re going to go and where they can make the biggest impact and and what they can do. The biggest followers are all receivers outside of the top three. Now the top three being Jalen Waddle Devonta Smith, Ja’Marr Chase. Everybody outside of that. I don’t know I think the prop bet that Vegas has right now Derek we were talking about this before the show I’m pretty sure the prop bet the biggest has right now is five and a half receivers on the first round. I think I’m very comfortable hammering the under on that. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Rashard Bateman be the fourth receiver taken out of that group. But then to find a fifth anymore of guys that these teams think that they absolutely have to have them or if they can wait another round, maybe later and get someone who’s similar enough. The more I think about it, the more I’m kind of buying into this concept that the after the big three four receivers the Rashard Bateman’s the oh shoot the kid from Florida. And
Derek 18:16
Canarias Tony,
Kevin 18:18
yes. And then Rondale, Moore out of Purdue, both of those three guys who have all been flirting with first round grades. I think they’re all going in the second round, like Bateman’s, the one that I truly see as the fourth. And then after that, as good as Moore is, I don’t know that people are going to tender that first round grade on him for a slot receiver. Right. And that’s what a lot of this is like you have your top your top guys and talent for a Devonta Smith, or a Jaylen Waddle who could probably, you know, play some slot play outside and they have a little bit of flexibility. Tomorrow, Chase is an outside receiver like he’s going to play. Most likely he’s going to play the X. When he gets up and going like he has the skill sets to be a true dominant number one receiver but outside of that, we have a lot of guys who are filling that slot type of role which is needed in today’s NFL game. Don’t get me wrong. I just don’t think these NFL teams as a whole are prioritizing slot receiver over let’s build from the trenches. Let’s get another piece for the defense. Let’s do that as opposed to you know, where they can wait another round or two and pick up a receiver that’s similar and far more comparable than the fall off on the defensive side of the ball after about the first two rounds.
Derek 19:43
Fair enough. Terrence Marshall will be another guy that we had seen kind of flirted with potentially being a first round guy in there as well to kind of lump them in with those wide receivers you were just talking about as well. And I think you’re right, I think you know, it could be very interesting because the fact that they set that one line there. But, you know, really, after you get past those first three, that the rest of those guys, there’s, you know, we talk fantasy all the time we talked about the tears, well, there’s a very clear tear break yours in those next group of guys, they’re to the point where it could very well see them fall out of the first round. So I’m Mac Jones, I agree with you too, that he is the riser follower. I did find it interesting though, that Kyle Shanahan coming out with some press clippings in the last couple of days saying that he’s very confident at any of the five quarterbacks that he could take it number three, which is probably a good thing, if you just gave up as much as the niners did to move up, which, again, their team that you don’t normally see, spend a lot of future draft capital to move up in a draft. They’re normally a team that will trade away some capital move back a little bit. So I would say yes, he’s, you know, that statement holds pretty true. But it’ll be very interesting to me to see who they take at number three, and I think that’s really where the intrigue of this draft starts. And so, you know, the question then becomes, is, if I’m right there with you thinking that five quarterbacks would take in the first round, but is are we gonna see five quarterbacks taking the the top 10 picks?
Kevin 21:25
Man? Because everyone is saying yes, I almost have to say no, to go against the grain. Right, that one of them is gonna fall outside the top 10. I just you think of other guys who will go up there. Right. Kyle Pitts, send eight or
Derek 21:50
see where I am
Kevin 21:51
later? Yeah, part sorry, penisy. Well, for Sean Slater. So there’s three. And then Jabbar chase probably chases in there. So there’s for number five, the I mean, there has to be a defensive player, pick whether it’s whether you’re going corner, or linebacker or defensive line, it doesn’t matter at that point, right? Whether it’s a whether it’s horn, Fitzpatrick, right. It’s been rumored at 10 to Dallas a lot. So there’s that 10th pick. So then you’re only looking for one team. You know, maybe they move up, maybe some other things happen. But five out of the top 10 just seems like a lot, man. And everybody’s saying Yeah, they think that’s gonna happen, or at least most everybody’s saying they think that’s gonna happen. I think I’m gonna go against the grain on this one of the five is going to fall. And it just seems written in the NFL stars as much as It disgusts me that somehow the New England Patriots are going to get their quarterback of the future by sitting, where they’re at, and have one fall into their lap at 15. Like that just seems like it’s written in the stars. And it makes me want to vomit. But the more I think about it, it’s just seems like it’s almost written in stone already.
Derek 23:14
Gotcha. Yeah, I saw some things earlier today To where? Yeah, the Patriots came out kind of saying that the groundwork has been laid for them to move up potentially to the number eight and do a swab. Potentially moving inside the top 10 to try and take a quarterback would be the assumption there. Yeah, same thing to Atlanta is rumored to potentially be moving back for a team that’s hungry to get a quarterback and move up to that number four spot. So I guess the question that I have for you, if you had to put the likelihood of the Falcons trading out and the likelihood of the Panthers trading out, what would you put the likelihood of each of those scenarios?
Kevin 23:56
Um, I think I think the likelihood of the Falcons trading out is probably Oh, we’re gonna put a value to it. Let’s call it 40%. So less than likely, but well within the realm of possibilities. I think the Panthers are even less I think the Panthers have a lot of holes that they need to fill. And they’ll be pretty happy. If they can get their hands on an offensive lineman. If Kyle pits falls to them, they’ll be happy like, unless they get offered a absolute haul from a team in you know, the the mid part of this draft where they can get a first this year, first next year, maybe and a second round or something like that to really make it worth their while. I don’t see the Panthers trading out they have too many holes you take best available at that point. It really doesn’t matter position wise, you just take the best player available because he’ll be able to fill a gap that the Panthers need but it’s draft day and the NFL draft is always full of a couple surprises so maybe maybe that’s it so I Panthers 15% nine or excuse me the Falcons 40% and we’ll see who has the gusto to try and give it all up to move up and get there guy
Derek 25:21
fair enough yeah i i don’t know it’s it’s one of those that when I when I look at some of the followers as well for my draft a perspective it’s it’s an interesting one is one that I’ve never really seen before where you know normally if a guy is tumbling down the the draft boards or you’re seeing the stock fall as far as your his draft a capital is concerned you usually have a good reason why it or at least a good narrative for it and a guy that I haven’t ever seen this really with before is a guy like Justin Fields who you know not long ago it was you know the question mark was really the Jets going to take a number two it looks you know things look like they’re gonna go with Wilson there and then it was obviously whoever didn’t get picked second was going to be picked number three there and that doesn’t even seem to hold true anymore when you look at this so it kind of an interesting narrative there when you’re looking at it that Justin Fields who a lot of people had right after that the college playoff you know championship game and you know playoffs had him as the number two quarterback prospect coming into this thing. There’s there’s a lot of mocks that I’ve seen come out recently that have him the fifth quarterback being taken off the board, you even behind Trey Jones. So any thoughts as to what’s going on with Justin Fields there.
Kevin 26:55
I think part of it smoke and mirrors. I think part of it is the stigma around Ohio State quarterbacks. They just really haven’t performed well in the NFL. They’ve got a lot of shortcomings, if you will, for one reason or the other. But just to watching the film, and the level of competition that Justin Fields played against while at Ohio State’s and even while at Georgia before he transferred up like he is still the second best quarterback in this draft. He has the most dynamic skill set in this draft. And I’d argue that quite frankly, maybe even more so than then Trevor Lawrence. Trevor Lawrence has that Moxie of Clemson, right. He won the national title. He was in the national title. He was in the national title again, like he he had the accolades and being able to do these things while under Dabo at Clemson, but Justin Fields and Trevor Lawrence have been competing with and against each other since like junior high. Like they grew up around the same area, they went to the same quarterback camps, they recruited by the same schools like it. There is a there’s a natural competition there. They’re their friends. They’re friendly. But there’s a natural competition there and Justin Fields, up until the day that Trevor Lance or Trevor Lawrence started at Clemson, Justin Fields, it always been regarded as the better quarterback Trevor Lawrence, one more at Clemson. Okay, that’s fine. But you know, there have been some really good quarterbacks on some really crappy teams before and Justin Fields wasn’t on crappy teams. He just was on teams that couldn’t quite get over that national title hump. But I think so all that long winded I apologize. But all that I think plays into it. I don’t think Justin Fields is the quarterback that falls I think Trey Lance is the quarterback that fall still. I think there’s just too much unknown about him and for NFL teams to invest such a high and I guess, wealthy pick, being in the top 10. I think they want to be able to check off a couple more boxes then. Well, he looked good for 16 games. And, you know, the one game that he played last fall looked okay, but he really hasn’t played football in eight months now. And we’ve seen these other guys as recently as January. So I think Trey Lance is the one that falls still I just I think there’s too many unknowns, not to Lance’s fault. He did what he could against the competition he faced and the schedule that he had. But I think NFL teams are very cautious with these first round picks, and as many of them That do bust out. I, as far as washing out of the league, I think teams are really trying to take some of the uncertainty out of it.
Fantasy Trades
Derek 30:11
I think you’re probably right. Um, but yeah, it’ll, it’ll make for a lot of intrigue. And for everybody out there, you know, watching and you’re hearing some of our takes on our risers and our followers, make sure you’re taking some notes on that. Because on Thursday, if we got one right, we got one wrong, I want you to hit us up in the chat on the live stream. And, you know, make sure that you hold us accountable and let us know what we got right and what we got wrong. But let’s go ahead and move on over to some fantasy trades. And yeah, that is kind of one of the staples out there when you’re talking fantasy football and things that can make and break a season is being able to make, you know, not only good draft picks, but also make a really good, you know, trades throughout the season to get your team better and be able to really rise up and do what you need to do to win a championship there. And so for anybody out there listening, if you didn’t get a chance to hit us up with some draft date, or with some trades, for your fantasy football, you can throw it in the chat. We’d love to love to interact with you. I’d love to hear your trades. You throw them up there, we’ll we’ll talk about them. And go through all of that. Just make sure you throw it in the comment section. And we’ll we’ll go through that. But let’s go ahead and start with some dynasty trades that we had sent in. And the first one up was Ezekiel Elliott and a 2021. First, it happens to be the 106 for the 2021 101. What are your thoughts on this one? So it’s Zeke in the 106 for the 101 this year?
Kevin 31:52
Um, there’s a couple caveats to this, and I’ll list them through one, if this is a superflex. That would change my mind from what I’m going to say to the other way. And also depending on roster construction, right, if this is if this is a super flex, we’ll start there and you need the quarterback. You got it. As much as it’s painful at times. You got to take Trevor Lawrence at one on one and especially if you’re needy at quarterback now if you’re not, or if it’s just a single quarterback league. I’m taking Zeke in the 106 all day long. I will let you know Ja’Marr Chase Jaylen Waddle Travis etn maybe Nagi Harris that’s a bit of a stretch but I’m sure it’s going to happen in some leagues fall to me at 106 and pair that up with Zeke and run with it as opposed to the one on one now again, if you need a quarterback if it’s a superflex League take Trevor Lawrence and and feel good about that you got the best quarterback in the draft it’s a position of need on your team. But if you if you don’t need a quarterback in a super flex League, trade the one on one you’re getting a in my opinion you’re getting a top five running back in Zeke who’s still only 25 years old like yes, he had a crap year last year every cowboy had a crap year after Dak went out like get over it. That was last year that’s this year we the offensive lines coming back I’m sure they’re doing I’m sure they’re gonna draft an offensive lineman at some point in this draft to start fill the holes Dak healthy again CeeDee Lamb another year into it, Michael gallops playing in a contract year. You have Amari Cooper there, but let let Zeke be Zeke. I’m not giving up hope on him yet. And I would much rather take a proven commodity and gamble on the 106 then not have any commodity at all and gamble on the one on one.
Derek 34:02
Yeah, that was kind of what I was looking at this as well, because, you know, just like a couple weeks ago when we hit up the Cowboys, and we’re talking about the 21 that team makeup in 2021. Before the draft, I I’m right there with you. I think that Zeke will have a big bounce back here. When you look at it before Dak went down. He was the number two or number three running back depending upon whether you’re playing full point or half point PPR and the 106 will still get you a really good prospect in this draft. Yeah, depending upon the league makeup, you’re talking either one of those, you know, what is you know, the word generational talent gets dropped quite a bit but one of those type of elite level or potential elite level wide receivers out there, you could potentially have one of those running backs fall to you. And if you’re talking you know single QB you’ve still got a great prospect in in some of these quarterbacks volunteer so I like the Zeke and the 106 sides Moore. Myself. Let’s go ahead and move on over to the next trade. And that one was Michael Gallup, and a 2021 3rd rounder for Terry McLaurin and a sham. Sorry, I got those mixed up. Michael Gallup and a 2021 4th rounder for Terry McLaurin and a 2021 3rd, rounder.
Kevin 35:26
Last year at this point, I would have given a different answer this year and seeing how this is playing out. I want Terry McLaurin over Michael Gallup. So I don’t know that it’s that close. As much as I wanted it to be last year. Gallup kind of fell short obviously with Dec going down. Terry McLaurin has been the clear option. He’s been a bigger target. He’s had bigger target percentage games than what I anticipated him to have last year with really no quarterback. Consistently throwing the ball down the field and then once Alex Smith came down, he’s Captain checked down, but Terry McLaurin made it work. The emergence or the I guess the new signing of Curtis Samuel doesn’t scare me at all. I think it probably helps Terry McLaurin more than hurts him. Ryan Fitzpatrick loves to throw the ball down the field. He loves to gamble. And this is a situation where I’d rather take a team’s true number one than a team’s really good to be.
Derek 36:32
Yeah, I yeah. Kind of a ditto answer for me. I last year, this time, I would have rather had Gallup going into a contract year over Terry McLaurin and that quarterback situation they had where it was going to be Dwayne Haskins. Yeah, Alex Smith wasn’t a you know, it really wasn’t thought that that Alex Smith would come back. So you were looking you’re staring down the Dwayne Haskins train there. Michael Gallup had the much better quarterback hat was going into the contract here. So yeah, before the season, I would have rather have had the Michael Gallup side. Looking back hindsight, I would much rather have had the Terry McLaurin side. Let’s go ahead and move on into the next trade. And yeah, I’m kind of noticing a trend here but you had a lot of trades for Zeke happening last year. So this one was Zeke and a and the 2021 3rd rounder for Kenyan Drake and Kenny Golladay.
Kevin 37:34
I’m again gonna lead on the Zeke Elliott side. He is the guy again. Top Five running back. He’s still finished in the top beast. It was an RV one last year guys like yes, he sputtered down the stretch. But he’s still an RV one. And you pick up a third round pick. Okay, well, Drake’s not even worth a third round pick these days because he’s playing second fiddle to Josh Jacobs in Las Vegas. Kenny Golladay. While a number one wide receiver, we’re not quite sure how that’s going to work with Daniel Jones. I have high aspirations for it. But it’s a new system. It’s a new offensive philosophy. He’s playing with the new quarterback who he doesn’t have chemistry with all those things and God is actually a year older than Zeke. Now receivers last longer than running backs do but he’s just coming off a season where he missed 80% of the games because of injuries. And you’re not quite sure how he’s going to fit into this New York scheme. So again, I I’m taking Zeke and the players are nice. For for some depth. Golladay is a nice piece. Again, I liked him a lot. But I I’m taking the running back. Those are a more valuable commodity in the fantasy realm, then a wide receiver.
Derek 38:58
This one for me is again, your last year at this time. I very well might have looked at taking the Drake and the Golladay side of things. Just because of the fact that where we were this time last year on Kenyan Drake coming off of that fantastic season, you know, finishing in 2019 and where the expectations were for him to be a you’re almost a top 12 back going into 2020 and Kenny Yala day coming off that great season in 2019 and potentially being going up and looking at a nother nother realm of being able to use a top 12 wide receiver as well. So before the season I’m modeling the Drake Kenny Golladay side after the season I’m certainly taking the zeek in the 20 21/3 simply because I’m looking at a the potential of Zeke being in a top five back I don’t think that you’re going to see that with Drake and Golladay is a big question mark. not changing locations again. Let’s go ahead and move on over the next one CeeDee Lamb for a 2021 pick and it’s the 105 picks. So CeeDee Lamb for the 105 that’s, that’s do.
Kevin 40:20
I’m taking CeeDee Lamb here, I think for the 105. In most drafts, you’re going to be looking at receiver at that point and whether that’s a Ja’Marr Chase, Jaylen Waddle Devonta Smith, you know, pick your flavor at that point. But CeeDee Lamb is a guy who is, is clearly going to be the Dallas Cowboys number one receiver here and about, if it doesn’t happen this year, it’s going to happen next. So I’ll take Lamb he’s going to be playing he’s again proven commodity. We’ve seen what he’s done on the field already. He’s electric. The the report was starting with Dak Prescott. And he was the one cowboy who really didn’t fall off a cliff after Prescott got hurt. So I’m taking Lamb because we’ve seen him play NFL games against NFL competition. And we know exactly what we’re getting with him to an extent as opposed to the prospect of we’re trying to translate your collegiate tape into the NFL game. And while these guys look really good, the bust factor is real. So I want the proven commodity only one year only with one year under his belt. So he’s still super young age doesn’t play any factor into this for me.
Derek 41:36
Yeah, same same difference for me. Even when you’re looking at the 105 there’s a good chance you’re looking at Ja’Marr Chase or Davonta Smith or Jalen Waddell being there, you want to get one of the top end wide receivers in this class. But last year, at this time before the draft, we were talking CeeDee Lamb and Judy Yep. Jerry, Judy, being that one, a one B and you were good with either one of those guys. And you know it was going to be dependent upon where the landing spot was for fantasy which one was going to be the better, better commodity and the better player for fantasy. So CeeDee Lamb has probably the one of the best landing spots that you could expect a wide receiver to have in the NFL, Dallas throws the ball a ton. They’ve got a poor defense that is going to result in them getting in shoot outs a ton as well. And you’ve got one of the better quarterbacks in the league to throw him the ball. So I’m going to take the the guy that has built in opportunity bnct Lamb and a guy that can either go in the slot or play outside and can really do both and on a team that will utilize him. So CeeDee Lamb for me over the the gamble, that would be the 105 so the next ones we’re going to talk about are all some redraft here. So redraft from last year, you had Derrick Henry for dd chark. James Robinson and the Buccaneers defense and special teams.
Kevin 43:16
Derrick Henry we expected some things at a DJ Chark right. Like we thought he would take that next step and, and and kind of really compete at that wide receiver one wide receiver to swing area that didn’t come to pass. James Robinson was a nobody at this point. Last year, we had no idea that he was going to bust on the scenes in Jacksonville or that the or the Jacksonville was even going to let go Leonard Fournette at this point, we still had no idea so he was buried on the depth chart behind Rockwell ozigbo Leonard Fournette then you had James Robinson like this is a Derrick Henry do all day you take again you take top what eight running back and really he’s higher than that but because he doesn’t catch the ball you kind of downgrade them a little bit. He’s still top eight who gets a ton of usage we saw the run that he had at the end of 2019 that continued in 2020 there’s no reason to think that that won’t continue in 2021 but you know sitting there looking at that I like receivers and as far as the defense and special teams goes Get out of here like the stream um, like you don’t need to trade for one unless you know you’re really just swimming in a pot of gold but at that point I think you’re probably just playing in like an eight man league. So who gives a who gives a damn
Derek 44:46
gotcha. Um, the fact that this was a redraft trade. I have to believe that it happened in season and you certainly depending upon when in season it happened. This one either look like you gave up a ton or not so much. Because if this happened towards the very tail end of the season right before you started looking at playoffs that was right about the time that James Robinson was kind of banged up a little bit, DJ Chark had missed some time in there. But if this was made, you have, say, 567 games into this into the year, you probably saw some really, really just kind of a pretty fair trade, I think on that one, but I would have still leaned the Derrick Henry side of things, just because you know how much he was going to get utilized in there. And Tennessee had a game script that is going to allow them too, to play from the head and run, Henry 20 times a game plus. So I’m right there with you. I liked the Derrick Henry side on that one. Next one up was Cam Newton. And this is redrafts. Again, Cam Newton for Sony, Michelle.
Kevin 45:57
barf. That’s all I say is barf. For me. It’s it’s Cam Newton. Because I completely believe in the fact that you can’t trust New England running backs. Sonia Michele was given opportunity didn’t quite capitalize on it. Cam Newton was given opportunity didn’t quite capitalize on it. But if all things are created equal at that point, I want the ball. I want the guy who’s going to touch the ball every single play. And that defaults into Cam Newton. Now, neither one showed great people were very frustrated with performances out of both guys, but I don’t trust New England running backs. I don’t draft New England running backs. I don’t trade for New England running backs. So Cam Newton would be the default piece as far as you know, what side of that trade? I would like if I was forced to make it.
Derek 46:57
Fair enough. I’m right there with you. I would I would rather have the Cam Newton side of that. Yeah. Especially going into the season because of the fact that you knew can’t what Cam Newton is going to do when they get in the redzone he is going to score some touchdowns and he’s going to end up Voltron a lot of touchdowns from you know, whoever the running back is there. Um, so yeah, I would have taken the Cam Newton side on that all day and not thought twice about it. Let’s go ahead and move on over we’ve got one more trade to talk about. And that was Zeke and DJ Moore. For DeAndre Hopkins and James Connor in redraft last year.
Kevin 47:41
So I think this one probably depends on the part of the season that you were in a little bit right. So Zeke’s DJ Moore started off slow. Zeke started out pretty pretty hot until the deck injury and then that kind of flipped Zeke sputtered down the stretch DJ Moore actually picked it up and ended up having a career year like quietly having a career year and we’ve still kind of bagged on him for not making that elite jump. Like, I think like at least on our show, we were pounding the table that he was going to make. DeAndre Hopkins obviously is a top three receiver in most cases a top two receivers especially in redrafts. So there’s a lot of named clout to that. And James Connor had every opportunity in the world but just couldn’t seem to stay healthy was constantly getting banged up but while on the field was serviceable, so I see both sides of this Honestly, I think this is probably for me the most even trade across the board. I love me some Zeke Elliott. And as you guys have told any any side of the trade here with Zeke, I’ve been leaning on that Zeke side because I just think he has the ability to take over a game and and there’s only a handful of running backs that can do that. And yes, depending on the time of the season, maybe you weren’t thrilled with Zeke. Maybe someone was trying to unload Zeke. But for all for all intents and purposes at free redraft I probably would have gambled on the Zeke and DJ Moore side because I couldn’t trust James Connor to stay on the field and I think that’s ultimately what tips in the favor of DJ Moore and Zeke Elliott, is Zeke and DJ are greater than DeAndre Hopkins by himself and a lot of times that’s what you’re going to end up with because you can’t trust the history of James Connor to stay healthy.
Derek 49:40
No, that’s that’s pretty spot on there. Yeah, again, depending upon when that trade was made. Definitely kind of sways things there. But I would probably lean towards the Zeke and DJ Moore side of things. I could see it though if you were you’re looking pretty sad. As far as as running backs winter, you had some other options in there. You know, maybe needing a top end, wide receiver I could have seen the DJ or the DeAndre Hopkins side of things but just on the surface there I’m probably looking and leaning more towards the DJ Moore in the Zeke side of things as well give us follow on all the socials Twitter, Instagram, Facebook twitch at @GoodOldBoysFF, the YouTube channel, the good old boys fantasy football podcast.
