2021 Sophomore Slump featuring Special Guest Ernest from Into the Lab Pod
Intro 00:05
You’re listening to the good old boys fantasy football podcast. Now here’s your host, Kevin, Derek and Alex.
Derek 00:13
Alrighty. Welcome in ladies and gentlemen to another episode of the good ol boys fantasy football podcast. might have just blown out my co host eardrum Alex there. You’re welcome, Alex. But I am joined by my co hosts, Kevin Alex. Guys, how are we doing tonight?
Alex 00:30
Can we take more of like an NPR approach to our intro next time? Holy cow.
Derek 00:36
How long have we done the show? You know that? That ain’t the way we do things around here.
Alex 00:40
That was like extra big. That was big, big.
Kevin 00:43
We’re feeling it tonight. Feeling it tonight? Oh, no, I’m doing I’m doing good, man. I’m getting ready for the big winter storm that’s gonna hit Colorado.
Alex 00:51
But you guys are supposed to get like two feet. That’s crazy. Yeah. Yeah, whatever. They won’t have that.
Kevin 00:57
But other than that, we’re uh, I mean, getting through a lot of the basketball stuff that’s going on right now. But you know, football, we’re starting to get some news, right, we’re starting to figure out who did who didn’t get tagged, a couple trades have been going on. Starting, here’s some rumblings from team. So a lot of good information coming out, which is exciting because that means we get to compile all that into a database and then blow it out for the draft season coming up. So things are starting to warm up here a little bit. As far as the NFL season goes, and all things are gravy man.
Alex 01:30
And shortly after this podcast comes out, I think we later in the week, we get some pro day action with some of these rookies are going to get the combine stuff going on. So there’s just a lot more to come out. And obviously that that benefits us when it comes to making our evaluations in this upcoming rookie class. So that’s kind of exciting. You know, we kind of fought through the the Baron weeks of February where there wasn’t really much going on. And now we’ve got much more stuff going on with with draft coming up and, and all that exciting stuff. Quick note, there’s gonna be 27 NFL teams at North Dakota state’s pro day to evaluate Trey Lance for head coaches are going to make the trek to Fargo, North Dakota to get their eyes on this unicorn of a quarterback who is not going to do any of the agility tests nor run the 40. But he is gonna do all the throws and he’ll have a throwing script that he’ll do.
Kevin 02:30
And I’m okay with that. I really don’t give a crap what the quarterbacks you know, three combs,
Alex 02:36
you know what he is?
Kevin 02:40
You know, in general, right, you know, he adds a piece to that he can scramble, might be able to run a little bit. He’s not Lamar Jackson fast or elusive. But he’s much more agile than a Joe Burrow is or Justin Herbert who came out last year to even went to it would scramble a little bit. So you have a baseline of you know what he is, you know what, he’s not as far as his leg presence. But it’s the throws that I want to see, I want to see him make the throws and and just continue to be into people’s heads that he’s not a day, simply running quarterback that he has a better arm and can read the field better than maybe a Lamar Jackson can at this point, right? Because that’s his linchpin is he doesn’t throw overly well. So it’ll be good to see. I’m glad that all these teams are going up and checking it out. At least they’re doing their homework. So it’s good for it’s good for North Dakota, in general, to just bring up the people and let them check out what’s going on.
Alex 03:43
Yeah, well, while we were all in the Deep Freeze down here in the south, they were really in the decrease up there. They had a stretch where they didn’t get above zero for like 10 or 12 days. So they need some light at the end of the tunnel.
Kevin 03:56
No, thank you.
Derek 03:57
Right. Well, Alex, you made mention that the intro was a little bit bigger than the normal. And that was due to the fact that we’ve got a special guest coming to us from Texas where, you know, apparently things are bigger down there is. As the saying goes, we’ve got Ernest coming, coming at us today. He’s from into the lab podcast, artists, how you doing?
Ernest 04:21
I’m doing great. I mean, I heard we were talking some Dallas Cowboy football. So I had to jump on this episode. So I’m really glad to be a part of tonight’s action. So thanks for having me.
Interview with Ernest from Into the Lab Pod
Derek 04:31
Absolutely. For everybody out there. You may remember we had Ernest on last year to help us break down some team. Team analysis, did a fantastic job. Really had some great takes there. And yeah, he’s got it. He’s got a really good kind of background when it comes to sports analytics, things like that. So I’m really interested to get a lot of your takes and how some of this thing’s going to play through. So should be a lot of fun. But let’s go ahead and kind of kick things off there a little bit. So obviously, we just we just made mentioned the fact that You were on the show last year. You’re back again tonight. But what have you been up to? And in the meantime, what have you been up to from last time we talked to you?
Ernest 05:08
Gosh, I don’t even remember how long ago that was, I’m guessing last offseason. So it’s been a while. Yeah, until a podcast has grown. We’ve we’re affiliated in. We’re international now. So we have, we have sponsors International. And our base has grown quite a bit, we finally reached the 10,000 mark. At one point, the past years, we had a 10,000 download episode, which was fantastic first time ever. But labs has continued to grow, we continue to grow together covering an NBA and MLB in particular, since last time, we talked I had mentioned from like Vince Young and triple B, his own lavar ball and, and a couple of other great guys who have actually got to actually have a one on one with this. That’s pretty fantastic stuff with until, but more importantly, everybody had COVID right in sports, we’re kind of in a little so blue color Media Group who’s the mothership of my podcasts until the lab, they they started a streaming division. So I’m now part owner and head of the streaming division at blue color Media Group. And so kind of taking my talents to the next level is, is where I went and so we got 12 awesome streamers and, and six awesome gamers who come on and go nightly. And you can catch all of our action on ww blue collar mg comm slash until that pod or just without the slash and you can see everybody else but yeah, it’s been fantastic. And we’ve had a really good to hear. So excited to be back.
Kevin 06:32
Awesome. Awesome. That’s, that’s really cool. I’m super happy for you guys. That’s awesome. all the hard work that you guys have put into into the lab and then being able to partner up with blue color and just seeing that thing take off is is really, really cool. So congratulations to you guys. And we wish you continued success as you guys build your brand here in this crazy industry that we’re all kind of messing around in here at the moment. So as 2021 we get further into the season and start to change gears basketball or at least college hoops is kind of wrapping up we have the NBA Playoffs that’s getting closer baseball seasons about ready to kick off and then you know mainly football season which is what we we spent really focus on here at the good old boys. But what’s what’s something that you guys are working on content wise that your your viewers and listeners can expect coming up here in the next couple months that they need to put a pin in their calendar and stay tuned for?
Ernest 07:30
Yep, so what we do in the offseason. So you know, mostly American podcasts, especially sports focuses around football. So really, you’re going to the law of what can fill my sports edge. But we do sports trivia every Wednesday night around 7:30pm you’ll catch your lovely guys on they’re trying to defend their title from last season and a bunch of other podcasts that have come on and said hey, you know, we beat you guys, we’re gonna defend our title or Hey, we want to rematch and so it actually starts tomorrow night. 7:30pm Central Laila any social outlet that’s connected to into the lab pod and you can catch us doing football trivia. To start things off against MTM v sport shout out to them, they’re fantastic as well. And, and going head to head and we give chances to any listener last year of both shows to come and defend their titles as wherever they think they know better than us. And they just like they listen to what they’re talking about. They just keep coming back anyways, and come out and show us. And then we get you a spot on there. And you can do trivia sessions against us. That’s something we do weekly throughout the summer, and then kick off right into the NFL action in August. And so yeah, that that’s something you could really kind of be interactive with us in play. And oh, I guess the main thing was enticing, right? You get $25 gift cards to anybody on your team of your choice. So it can be anything you absolutely want. So can’t deny a challenge. So come out and challenge us. We always want that.
Alex 08:51
That’s good stuff, man. All right, we’re gonna we’re gonna talk football here with with what we’ve got going on. And so one of the questions that I think is pertinent and on everybody’s mind as you get going here into some of the offseason stuff as you start to evaluate what you had last year, and you’re moving into next year. Who is one of those guys, that is a must have for you personally, on your fantasy football roster.
Ernest 09:18
Oof, anything,
Alex 09:19
any team, any player must have him willing to overreach to get this guy on your team?
Ernest 09:27
That’s a tough question right off the gate. Um, let’s see, uh, I’m gonna I’m gonna sound a homer ish. I’m gonna sound Homer ish. I’m gonna go Dak Prescott. Sorry, I know we’re gonna talk about him. But Dak Prescott is going to be the the man next year because he’s now the man in Dallas, America’s team and they’re going to be writing that arm to a championship may not be next year but they’re going they’re going to be writing that arm and, and Mike McCarthy knows that the quarterback positions what the focus is now. Let’s now so I’ve got it and we’re going to talk a lot about him so I won’t give away too much. But I think if you’re going to reach on a quarterback next year, it’s going to be Dak Prescott.
Alex 10:09
So Carson Wentz is that what I hear? So, to get Carson Wentz I read
Ernest 10:14
the funniest that’s mine, I read the funniest stat Dallas is paid 22 million for their quarterback to actually start a game. And the Eagles are paying 33 million for him to start somewhere else. So I thought that that was a fantastic way to
Derek 10:30
Oh, I love it. That’s a I love the little tease right there too, because we will get to Dak Prescott, as well as several other Cowboys, because that is the theme of the week. But Ernest before we, before we get there, you know, tell us real quick, how can the listeners connect with you and learn more about you?
Ernest 10:52
Yeah, so Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, any of those who do slash into the lab pod, you’ll you’ll come across our content. And we really focus on spreading the love hashtag pod and family is really what I love about our communities that we support y’all, y’all support us and, and so on our direct feed on Twitter, you’ll find that we’re just retweeting and sharing stuff from around the industry. And then we focus live for our nights for our content and in our podcast, of course, but my personal Twitter is not very active. But if you wanted to follow me whenever I am, it’s at Ducky future PhD is I’m in my dissertation phase right now for my PhD. So that would be that’d be fun if you want to come catch some of that real content. But other than that add into the lab pod on any social platform. And they do have a great show into the into the lab like Ernest mentioned, Kevin and I went on there last year and one the night that we were on with the sports trivia, feeling pretty good about that. So always a lot of fun, always great to to watch that and and to be on that show.
NFL News From Free Agency
Derek 11:58
So if you guys haven’t had a chance to go check that out yet. You need to hop over there. Check it out. They do it on Wednesday nights. It’s a lot of fun. Guys, we do have a great episode for you tonight. We’re gonna we’ve got a lot of news to cover. You had a lot of lot of cap casualties. A lot of tags have franchise tags happen and a lot of just free agency news going on. And then we’re gonna get to a little bit of a sophomore slump, a little bit of a fun kind of segment we’ve got planned there towards the end where we’re going to each talk about a couple of rookies that we’re thinking are going to have a regression in their sophomore season that sophomore slump should be a lot of fun. If you haven’t had a chance to already hop over check out the website good old boys FF com sign up for the newsletter. We got a lots of great content coming to you this offseason and heading into next season. But let’s go ahead and let’s hit up the news. And to start it off with the Patriots traded a 20 22/5 rounder for the to the Raiders for offensive tackle Trent brown and a 20 22/7 rounder. Joe Cerny is likely headed to free agency after the Patriots are not expected to tag him looks like that Trent brown trade helped pave the way for that a little bit. The Raiders ended up clearing about $49 million of 2021 cap space by releasing Gabe Jackson Richie incognito. lamarcus Joyner Terrelle Williams and then trading Trent brown the giants are expected to tag Leonard Williams, Washington is expected to tag Brandon trif again. Isaiah Wilson traded to the dolphins for 20 21/7 rounder, which is a big kind of drop he went 29th overall in 2022. It traded for a seventh rounder A year later, the Buccaneers tagged Chris Godwin the bears tagged Alan Robinson the lions did not tag Kenny Golladay the Packers did not tag Aaron Jones. Seattle did not tag Chris Carson and the Chargers did not tag Hunter Henry. So lots of news coming at you guys. What did you make of all this?
Kevin 14:01
I made that there’s gonna be a lot of big fantasy names in free agency this year. Right? Kenny Golladay Aaron Jones kind of head up that list since Dak signed his or since Dak got signed to a long term deal. And with Godwin getting tagged so Kenny Golladay Aaron Jones are kind of two headliners best tight end available is going to be Hunter Henry for teams that are looking to looking to boost up their tight end position, Chris Carson‘s available which is a little surprising, leaving his time in Seattle so there’s gonna be a lot of a lot of action happening a lot of things that you know, you need to stay close to because this will affect draft status right this will affect their opportunity you have to be paying attention to what kind of offensive scheme they’re going into how their OC likes to you know, game script and call plays. Where they sit on the depth chart like is this team generally playing with the lead are they playing catch up like all these Things that with these set of players that we’ve kind of been accustomed to over the last four years or so, is now going to get shuffled up. So I think it’s, I think it’s fun. I think it’s what makes this really, really interesting as you continue to evaluate and reevaluate these players and kind of where they land on draft boards. But I think I’m surprised but not surprised by the Aaron Jones deal. I know they brought in AJ Dillon, Aaron Jones is going after that big money after the 2019 and 2020 seasons. And we’ll see what this runningback market kind of pans out right like these last few backs who have gone out for big money, have been disappointed people saw what happened when Todd Gurley they want to stay away from that Zeke is really the last big name running back to truly get paid. So we’ll see what happens there coming up. But we covered that about two weeks ago, I think it was, I think all the slight Aaron Jones was going to be heading down to South Beach and playing in Miami. So we’ll see how that shakes out. But overall, this is exactly what I was talking about. Start the show guys a lot, a lot of moving pieces. But this is what makes it so much fun.
Alex 16:16
Don’t let your kids grow up to be a running back there one contract and done. That’s that’s the moral of the story here is Don’t let your kids grow up to be a running back. Yeah, I think that Chris Carson news is interesting. I think the Aaron Jones news is interesting. Obviously, the golladay stuff is is going to be interesting to see where he lands to. But that’s the to your point, Kevin, wherever they go, are they going to be used the same way that they were in their previous spot? And that’s going to be something? That’s a question that’s going to have to be answered? And who knows what preseason is going to look like if we’re going to see any semblance of what an offense might be for those guys in their new potential landing spots. So it is definitely one to pay attention to. Because you’re right, Kevin, it will affect draft status one way or the other, that those guys may not have as much power or as much power as they had in terms of needing to get them on your roster.
Ernest 17:29
There is one team who is absolutely smiling after today. And that is the Houston Texans. Because they need a number one wide receiver, they need a featured running back. And they need a feature Titan and Jonah Smith is also a free agent. And I think all three of those pieces are found in the free agency market now. And you were Bob McNair, you’re smiling big because he blew all the acquisitions you’ve done so far. US is taking over this team and you can really make up because of Watson golladay pairing would really scare some teams in the AFC south. And if you can bring in another feature runningback like Chris Carson, who used to play in in Texas, then you would, you’d absolutely have a steal in free agency. So although we’re not surprised with Aaron Jones, I do like the Miami thought down there. If David Johnson didn’t stink it up in Houston last year, even though he has that big contract with them still then I might say Aaron Jonesy Houston would be nice, but not going to happen. So they’re going to go wide receiver and tight in and free agency. And I think the two that they’re going to target is going to be Johnny Smith and Kenny Golladay. And I think that’s a that’s a really good pairing for deshaun. Watson.
Kevin 18:37
So it’s really interesting. I like that because we didn’t think about that. As much we’re talking about this two weeks ago, and a large part of it is just the Texans but a large gap space. Right, trying to figure out what’s going on. I still don’t believe Deshaun Watson is going to play a snap form. I think there’s a report that came out I believe is the tail end of last week, saying you know what, he’s there are reports that the Texans are willing to just let him sit on the 21 season. I don’t know if Shawn wants to sit on the 21 season but we’ll we’re gonna see how this goes is it kind of creeps up and
Ernest 19:17
I think sports and sitting stars nowadays is kind of a thing right the last last year so I mean, I actually really liked that rumor about Watson to Carolina for CMC and Teddy Bridgewater and a couple pigs that probably be the best thing they can get for him. that’s out there since Carolina wants to get rid of Chris McCaffrey. I mean that is that that comes to fruition used to be lucky. But if you can do anything to keep Watson it’d be to get some stars back. So find it ups.
Kevin 19:45
Absolutely. And it’s a it’s a piece right where they get players that can show up now and picks that they can build for the future as opposed to Miami where you’re just getting draft capital in return and kind of playing no pun intended. But you’re playing the lottery at that point right half these guys hit half these guys don’t. And this way, you at least know that you’d have some established NFL caliber players in return for given up a quarterback who’s in his prime
Derek 20:14
interesting thought that I was having earlier today. What if so, we, we’ve talked a lot about Aaron Jones potentially going to Miami, but a thought that came to mind was, what about Aaron Jones to maybe the Cardinals?
Kevin 20:28
I think the Cardinals love Chase Edmonds. I think we saw that when they were having issues with Drake. I wouldn’t be surprised and they brought in Benjamin last year, they just drafted him so while the Cardinals have been splashy and trying to get Kyler a bunch of weapons I don’t know that they’re wanting to completely you know, back up the Brinks truck for a running back right now. I think that they’re trying to build some other pieces, they realized that defensively they got to be able to stop guys and not have cuyler you know, lead that team to put up 40 points a game that’s not a recipe for success, as much as Kliff Kingsbury is mo is to kind of run in gun right, but I just think that’s the biggest holdup there is. They like chase admins, they
Alex 21:15
just drafted Benjamin last year. And I think for now they need to worry about the defensive side of the ball. I mean, they took the first step, they’re getting JJ Watt, how much of a difference that’s actually going to be is to be seen, maybe just a good veteran leadership, somebody that can, you know, set a good example. But
Derek 21:35
didn’t he see the most double teams in the league last year,
Alex 21:38
but even more than Aaron Donald?
Derek 21:40
I think so. I think what I was looking at, he saw the most double teams in there. And you’ve also got Chandler
Alex 21:45
Jody else on Houston’s defense that you would need to double. You got five guys walking for so what are you gonna do?
Derek 21:53
I’m just taking him paired up with Chandler Jones, who both of those two have led the league in sacks. They haven’t had the most sacks for several years. Very interesting combination there. And I would think that they’d go with a defensive player, they’re early in the draft, they’ve got a pretty decent pick there. The reason that I kind of came to that Aaron Jones to the Cardinals pick was a lot from the standpoint that they just got done paying Kenyan Drake the franchise tag so they’re used to paying running back that kind of money. And well, yes, they drafted you know, you know, Benjamin, he was a seventh round guy, and chase. Edmonds isn’t a guy that can really carry the load and Kliff Kingsbury offense while he’s a nice change of pace in a good receiving back out of the backfield. I think they would want another kind of one two punch with something like that.
Alex 22:44
I’m much more on board with this thought that you’ve you’ve put out then the thought that you texted Kevin and I much earlier this afternoon, which was probably the craziest thing that could happen and that text was what if Jacksonville uses the first overall pick to reunite air quotes? Justin Fields with Urban Meyer? No, it will never happen in a million billion years that that the Jags waste the unicorn pick and go with Justin Fields. I’m just saying so I’m much, much more on board with this thought that you had. Then then that thought that you gave us earlier this afternoon.
Derek 23:31
Yeah, that was one of those just crazy afternoon thought but the reason that thought existed, Urban Meyer loves himself an RPO style offense, who’s better equipped to run a run pass option offense? Justin Fields or Trevor Lawrence
Alex 23:46
based on what I saw on the national semifinal, not Trevor Lawrence, he was also not so bueno at that. Running quarterback game.
Ernest 23:55
I think the real answer that one’s Gardner Minshew.
Kevin 24:00
There you go.
Alex 24:01
Oh, we need to we should move on to other quarterbacks. We get Fitzpatrick down there. Fitzpatrick says he played for Jacksonville yet. Not yet. Not coming off the list.
Kevin 24:11
I have him coming to Denver so you can stay out of
2021 Sophomore Slump Candidates for Fantasy Football
Derek 24:16
your ride. We did go off in the weeds a little bit down that rabbit hole. Just the touch there guys talking some sophomore slumps, who are two guys that you think are going to see a regression in 21 after having some pretty good rookie seasons in 2020.
Alex 24:34
Yeah, before we get into this, you know, I brought this up to the to the group because obviously sophomore slump, it wouldn’t have a name if it wasn’t a thing, right. So there’s going to be a regression from some of these guys. And based on the list that we’ve compiled so far, there’s obviously going to be different reasons for why we think the second year in the league It won’t be what the first year in the league was. And there will be a regression. So that’s where this comes from. That’s where we’re starting this from our jumping off point is these rookies that dazzled us last year, we don’t expect them to have the same results this next year. Could be a big reason could be a small reason, but but that’s where we’re at with this with this segment.
Derek 25:22
I like it. Alex, go ahead and kick us off. Who are your two regression candidates?
Alex 25:27
Alright, so my first one is, I think an obvious one. And I think we’re all on board with this one as well. So my first one is Justin Jefferson. And that’s not to say that I don’t think that he’s still going to have one hell of a year next year, but I don’t see 1400 yards on 88 catches and seven touchdowns. I could see that seven touchdown number staying the same, the yardage number, I don’t see that being the same there in Minnesota. That was a revelation. He set all kinds of franchise records, rookie records, you know, he should have, for all intents and purposes won the Rookie of the Year if he played quarterback he would have that basically is what it came down to. He wasn’t a quarterback, and Justin Herbert was. So his regression for me is that he’s not going to be at that 1400 yard mark. I could still see the I could still see him being at 1000 yards, I could still see seven to eight touchdowns. And I still see the ball coming his way. He had a 75% catch, excuse me 70.4% catch percentage on his targets. That’s crazy. That is that is a huge amount. So Justin Jefferson, for me is the first one that I see will have a regression from those numbers. And I know that that’s really, you know, a hot take. They’re saying that the dude that set all kinds of records isn’t going to back that up with the with a similar season next year. My second candidate for a sophomore slump has nothing to do with how good his year was this last year, but it has everything to do with how bad the team around him is specifically the quarterback position. And that is Jerry Judy, with the Denver Broncos, and he was bad last year, only 46% catch, catch percentage, 856 yards which feels high on 52 catches. But he had 113 targets. I just don’t see that being the same. If the Broncos continue on the same path. If Drew Lock is the quarterback again. I just I don’t see Judy having the same year that he had and he had a bad year and that’s really disappointing. I guess he had he had an okay year on a bad team. I think he doesn’t have as good of a year. And the team’s probably even worse. Plus, there’s some more mouths to feed there in Denver if everybody’s healthy, namely Courtland Sutton coming back to that Broncos team.
Kevin 28:05
Alright, um, I’ma jump in on your bandwagon. Justin Jefferson‘s the top guy on my list. I think it’s just obvious, you know, 1400 yards trying to replicate that when everybody clearly knows now that you are the number one guy like, it’s just a different mindset. It’s a different mindset coming in facing the team’s best dB, every single game, as opposed to your rookie season where they’re trying to feel things out a little bit. And you can kind of catch some teams on their heels a little bit because they’re more worried about a Dalvin Cook or a Adam Adam Thielen. So, Jefferson’s on that list. I think that seven to eight touchdowns is absolutely duplicate duplicated. I think he does find the end zone. He’s got a really long frame. He does do a great job catching any and everything around him. He’s done that since he was at LSU. And you know, once when we get later into the season of episodes here, we’re gonna tell you, the guy who forced Justin Jefferson to play the slot. And that would be one tomorrow Chase. So that should tell you how good that kid was in college and what his prospects are as a pro but just Jefferson will slide back about 1100 50 yards ish. Maybe he’ll float with 12 or flirt with 1200 yards. The biggest problem with Minnesota is they are absolutely run first team. And yes, they’re changing over some offensive identity Kubiak leaving the organization who’s been he’s had his fingerprint on there for what Alex the last four seasons, three seasons. And so three, I
Alex 29:55
think yeah,
Kevin 29:56
there’s gonna be a little bit of a change there but at the end of the day, That is a run first team. They don’t want Kirk Cousins throwing the ball 40 times a game, they would love to be about as balanced as possible. So Jefferson’s my candidate number one. Number two, James Robinson. James Robinson had a phenomenal fantasy season going from rags to riches, as you picked him off your free agent wire at the very beginning of the season, when Leonard Fournette was handed his walking papers, and really turned into a fantasy darling. I kept waiting for the shoe to kind of drop on him last year. And towards the very end of the season, it did a little bit kind of how he warned in the playoffs in his schedule, but he got through weeks 12 through or excuse me, weeks, 11 through 14 pretty well. And there was some there was some pretty damn good teams that the Jaguars were facing them. But here’s my biggest problem with James Robinson. Urban Meyer is most likely going to want to implement some form of an RPO base offense. Okay. James Robinson is not an RPO style running back. He is he is very much a get it in go. He’s more of a traditional Thumper. He’s not a speed guy who likes to read a defense very well he’s see whole hit whole make a guy Miss, get a couple more yards. Like that was his whole Mo. And, excuse me, that just doesn’t work. Well in rpsl, offenses, you got to be able to make that de and miss. That’s a big thing about that as the QB tries to freeze him. But if you get handed the ball, you’re still expected to make that first guy Miss. Otherwise, a lot of those rpos go from four yard gains to four yard losses really quickly. James Robinson doesn’t quite fit that bill. So I think he is probably going to struggle most likely, he’s going to be going in round three, four redraft leagues. And that’s a pretty lofty price to pay for a guy that as I continue to kind of dive into that a little bit. I see him falling further and further back into RB two category by the time the year is over with
Alex 32:16
to that point, Kevin. He didn’t do that in college either. He was what you saw last year in Jacksonville was what he was in college. It was a pro style offense, it was turned around and the ball off to him set up five, six yards behind the line of scrimmage. And then he gets his head of steam and goes they tried RPO stuff when they had a quarterback injury at Illinois State and it did not work out very well to the point where they had a really good running quarterback but they had to keep that offense because it moved through James Robinson so he’s not used to it at all. Yeah, my
Ernest 32:48
two selections are gonna be pretty short and simple. Two guys that faded towards the end of last year who had really good rookie campaigns. I’m going to say also that James Robinson won’t be as good as a Travis fields makes him there in Jacksonville next year. No, just kidding. It’s a joke. Alright,
Alex 33:06
so uh, john fields, Justin, Justin
Ernest 33:08
fields. Justin Fields. Yep. Sorry. Sorry. Justin Fields. Yeah. So, um, when it comes to my guys, so first one, clyde edwards Hilaire. I think he’s going to take a step back. You could already see it fading, even going towards postseason. I know there were some injury hiccups in there. But then going into postseason, he just wasn’t up to speed. Maybe it’s a postseason slump there. But I feel like with Patty mahomes the focus is going to be if you eliminate the run it’s just a one dimensional game try to beat them. That’s kind of the mindset most defenses come into play. It’s very hard to get going. And he didn’t really live up to the hype as much as I thought he would last year although he did have some good numbers. I just not really have the big stats to back it up but collided were delay that’s my my running back big, wide receiver Chase Claypool resigned Big Ben there in Pittsburgh. You have a great rookie campaign. You saw him fade towards the back end of last season as well as the Steelers did as a whole. And then you have Big Ben coming back, you saw other receivers stepping up in his place. And Juju finally was getting his groove going towards the end of the season. So I’m gonna say Chase Claypool also takes that step back. Although I love his story, I think he’s more involved with Tick Tock than he is in spring training. So I’m going to go ahead and say that he takes that step back.
Derek 34:23
That’s an interesting one. I also had Chase Claypool written down here as a regression candidate. But a lot of that had to do with the fact that the Steelers, the Steelers, in order for them to be successful are not going to be able to throw the ball like they were all the time last year going into it. They’re going to have to find themselves a running game and in order for them to have long term success this season. They’re going to have to follow the blueprint of the 2015 Denver Broncos where you’re playing behind an elite defense you find yourself a run game and you have Big Ben be able to still make the throws when when is needed, but Last year, they use that that short passing game and that passing game as a run game. So I don’t see them doing that this year, the volume won’t be there for Chase Claypool as why I saw him falling off on that one. The other one I had in this one, I don’t necessarily think we’ll see that much of a regression as far as statistical. Things go. But when it’s all said and done, I see this guy being heavily overdrafted this coming year. And so that’s one that’s why he’s in here for me is more of a he will not live up to or outperform his ADP of where he’s going to go. And that’s Jonathan Taylor, who, towards the back half of the season had an incredible run and an incredible finish. But throughout the whole season was a little lackluster, especially starting off. And as that progress got better, but he’s a guy that from where the industry looks like they’re gonna put him he’s gonna probably be a top five pick and most redraft leagues and that’s one I don’t know that you’re gonna see him live up to that top five finish, I think he’ll still be a running back one. But one of those that I don’t know that he’s gonna live up to our outperform. So that’s why he’s in there. For me, I just don’t think that you’re going to get back your return on investment there. Well, guys, any final thoughts for the listeners?
