I’m fantastic. Personally, thank you for having me. It was in the works. We had it going. I had a personal issue last time out. So I had like an extra week or two to get prepped for this. And I’m ready to go boys. Thank you for having me.

Alex  00:47

Yeah, apologies for missing last week, I was one of the millions without power down in Texas. So we made it through it was sunny and damn near 80 in Central Texas today, so no complaints about that after we survived a pretty hectic ice storm. And snowstorm and cold temperatures but we are back. We’re good. My internet is spotty at best. So hopefully we can make it through this entire episode without me dumping out but by the concerned looks on everybody’s faces I think I might already have

Last year because he had we were with him in one of our leagues. We’re going to hit up some of the news. We’re also going to start setting the stage a little bit for some of the rookies. But guys, let’s go ahead and hop on over into it. So Chris, how, you know how did you get your start in in the fantasy football world?

Chris Robin  02:31

Well, in the fantasy football world, it was kind of a like where you were born and raised. I’ve noticed as I talked to people, you know, in all facets of life, like you root for the team that your parents did you know your father, your mother, your grandparents, whoever, whatever household you were in and being raised with. Yeah, as a young boy, you have Oh, you I’m a Michigan guy. Thankfully, I’m you have I’m not Michigan State. But that’s a topic for another day here. But in terms of football, I’ve been a Detroit Lions fan since the day I was born, I hopefully people don’t get sick of the story. So I’ll kind of fast forward here. When I talked about fantasy football, it caught my eye at a young age. And I was telling you before we went live here in in elementary school, actually in fifth grade, it didn’t know what you’re doing, you’re just writing names down on a paper and it sounded good. And then you kind of go through a law college, high school, college and it just goes away. But then when I really wanted to get serious about this, it was all because I couldn’t find the content I was looking for personally. And this was right around 2012 2013. When DFS was created, it was nearly as big as it is now. But there was something about DFS that grabbed my eye, it was more interesting to me. I was I’ll be honest with you guys, I was one of those people probably in like 2010 that thought, you know, regular fantasy football, it’s just not for me, it’s too time consuming. It’s long. It’s drawn out like most people, you want that quick fix that right right here and now kind of thing instant gratification. And as we look at at the landscape of the world, now it you know, phones and social media, everything is at our fingertips, and it’s right now. But going back to DFS, I said, You know what, this is fantastic. Because I’m, I love playing the strategic kind of role here. Anything I can do to get a leg up on other people, that’s what I’m going to do and in a you know, in a manner full way I’m not going to cheat or steal, you know, to hurt you or get over on you. And I just couldn’t find the content I was looking for. So I I looked around and I said you know what, after a few emails sent out to some of the bigger organizations and hearing nothing back, it bummed me out. But I said you know what, this is a good opportunity. If I’m if I can’t find what I’m looking for, why not just create it myself. And that’s how my DFS writing career kind of started there. I took it upon myself to start bottom of the barrel. If you guys are familiar with that, that that wasn’t around, you know, five years ago and it’s still it’s pretty Picking up major steam not only my article, but other kinds of cheap value play things here. But I guess the moral of the story to answer your question here Derek is, I couldn’t find what I was looking for. So I said, Hey, I’m gonna just create it myself. And here we are. It’s been a wild ride. And it’s just getting started to be honest,

Alex  05:18

Chris, we’ll get into your your real football game here in in a few moments. But what I guess is your number one piece of advice for fantasy, even it’s DFS, or season long or whatever? What’s your number one advice to fantasy players?

Chris Robin  05:37

Great question, keep an open mind, you’re going to get tossed so much nonsense along the way, whether you’re just strictly playing and trying to consume content, or if you want to write and broadcast and give out content that way, keep an open mind. Because the moment you kind of pigeonhole yourself and say, Well, I’m only going to discuss this or I’m only going to, you know, hang with these groups of people that then you’re cutting your yourself in half in a way, right? If I’m only going to focus here, then I’m not seeing what’s coming up on on this side of me here. So keep an open mind, be willing to move. You know, like open mindedness, willingness and open mindedness in a way, don’t concentrate on one thing, if you can, you know, take in everything, then so be it because to be honest with you, you know, if I was just a DFS guy that would cut off, you know, the broadcasting that I do, or that would cut off the content that I’m creating. And along the way, I’d miss out on a lot of fun interactive videos, I’d miss out on a lot of good, meaningful relationships with other people. So keep an open mind. And don’t pigeonhole yourself taking everything around you, rather than kind of, you know, just a tunnel vision directly on one topic, or one kind of thing.

Derek  06:53

That’s awesome. That’s some great advice there. Switching gears over to some of the fantasy side of things, right, you’ve obviously been playing fantasy for a long time, like you’ve already said, and we had the opportunity to watch one of your teams, it one of the events that we played in last year, and that was with the Ryder bowl, in the same division there. And that was a division you kind of ran away with. So I know that you’re able to put together some really good rosters and you’re you’re really looking at that team contract did very well. But how did you fare kind of overall, with all your different fantasy teams? And how many leagues Are you in?

Chris Robin  07:30

I fared very well. And in terms of how many leagues I’m in here, that this season was the first time I cut down drastically, because I kind of noticed that I wanted to concentrate full blown on writing and broadcasting and it wouldn’t be fair of me and the other people that I’m in leagues with, if I was just kind of half assing it you know what I mean? Like not doing waiver claims, not responding to trades, because those are the people that drive me the most nuts. And the last thing I would want to do is be that person, you know, be a person of, you know, just not doing much and that wouldn’t I wouldn’t value that. So I cut my legs down to about five and then in the In addition, I added the Ryder ball, I believe I was asked if I wanted to participate in that. And I said absolutely. And there were a couple other smaller like charity events that I joined well after I said I’m going to cut down I told myself well what kind of jerk would I be if I told told a charity No, I don’t want to play in your league. So but again this year, I would expect the same amount of of effort for me and all my legs I would expect the same amount of you know being talked to and asked if I wanted to play and it’s fantastic it’s humbling and I’m grateful to be asked you know people want to play with people like us Derek Alex people that I’m a no basically I’m a nobody just someone who likes to hang out and read and and broadcast football. And in turn, people are kind of taking that in and they’re taking notice that what we’re doing is successful. But my favorite league is a 14 team full PPR full IDP dynasty. And I have now won that league and back to back seasons on the strength of my my defense, my IDP, individual defensive players in that league is it’s unbelievable. And in a way, I’m happy that my name is actually been brought up in IDP circles because it seems like you know, IDP is like the redheaded stepchild here. Nobody wants to really tie it’s all super flex this super flex that and I got started years ago on IDP, it just caught my eye because it was more interesting. Again, I’m a strategic guy, as I’ve said. So that’s just another way to kind of, you know, get over on people in a in a good way in a healthy way here. And so I’ve won this league and back to back seasons on the strength of my individual defensive players and in this league as well. I know there’s been a lot of talk about, you know, standardized standardizing you know, the defensive scoring IDP 123 is one of them, or just tears. I don’t know what the what the length of the discussion is here but in my head It’s on fantrax. I believe that like, I compare it this way linebackers score the same as running backs, wide receivers score the same as cornerbacks, and DBS. And then tight ends are like, you know, like a safety or a defensive line, excuse me. So if I look at it that way in the scoring reflects that, I feel like I’m able to really do well there and back to back seasons with a championship here. So I’m very happy and thankful for that one.

Alex  10:26

I’m happy to hear that you play in an IDP League, because our home league that we got all started on this is we have IDPs in that. And there was one year that I tried to employ a draft strategy of Look, I’m trying to go after the most points. So I’m going to go after the guys who scored the most points. Some of those guys are IDPs. That backfired fantastically, in my face, but I do like the IDP it’s it is it is another way to make sure that you are giving yourself every advantage that you can when it comes to building a roster. Okay, so I think this is a fair statement that I’m about to make. But it’s a question too. Did you get involved in fantasy football? Because you actually wanted to know what it was like to win a championship as a lions fan?

Chris Robin  11:09

Yeah, absolutely. Yes. And I’m going to brush off that that very backhanded comment, you’re gonna slap me in the face two minutes after I’m joining your broadcast for the first time here. And I can answer that, honestly. It’s all love. Hopefully, people know that I’m kidding around here. But I’ve won some real life championships in baseball as a kid or football as a kid. But I yeah, I wanted to get into football. Because you know, fantasy football, excuse me, because I had no real life success with my hometown team, the Detroit Lions, so I could kind of build a team in my eyes, the way I see it. And I was going to really, you know, prove something to the lions organization who probably still don’t even know that I exist. But I’m going to build a team and win a championship many times over faster than an actual Detroit Lions organization. Well, so your question is awesome. I spun it, but it was great question.

Alex  12:05

It’s, it is all love. And of course, you know, we are Broncos fans here on this podcast. But we’ve had some ups and we’ve had some downs. And right now we’re in a down so while I know that we can never feel your misery, there have been years where where we can definitely empathize with what you guys have gone through just not not the extent that what you guys have gone through

Chris Robin  12:29

I was I got in a conversation with a friend at work. We were in a work meeting, we kind of sat in the back not paying attention, and we were chatting. And we went over this basically the same topic here where there’s fan bases that are very spoiled that like the Green Bay Packers, they if they don’t win, they don’t even pay attention. They just they go about their life. And then they’re like, oh, the packers are in the playoffs. Now we can really root for them while every game for the Alliance fan. We’re scratching and clawing. And I watch every moment of every game, the draft the preseason, and it’s like we’re just biting, you know, just hanging on a thread for the lions. And I would think that the Denver Broncos are kind of along that same lines in terms of you know, spoiled here. You guys have won Super Bowls. You’ve had some fantastic runs with with Elway at quarterback. And, you know, Terrelle Davis winning the MVP there. So you guys are most times I’ve noticed in all professional sports. There’s waves in first major cities like Denver, Detroit who have a pro franchise in all the four sports, there’s waves, the Red Wings were really good for like 25 years, and now they’re not I know, realistically, that wave will come back around and we’ll get we’re going to be okay, Tiger. Same way. A couple World Series. They made it back didn’t win, whatever. But we’re riding that wave. They’re awful now, but they’re building something in their farm system. This whole time. The Lions have had no wave. They’ve been on the beach on dry land, and there’s been nothing going on. So I I’d like to say that I I feel you or I know what you’re going through. But I don’t because the Denver Broncos have had some major success. A lot of success that as a lions fan. I’d love to be a part of that just won NFC Championship run just one NFC North division title. I mean, I’m in my mid 30s. I’ve seen Nothing. Absolutely nothing. It’s been a bummer.

Alex  14:16

Would you say? Without this last year? Would you say that? That the Browns fans? Or lions fans have had it worse?

Chris Robin  14:26

I would apps I would say the lions. Let’s be honest here. I mean, the Browns went oh and 16 but who what team laid the blueprint to go and 16 the Detroit Lions here, you know and at least there was a moment in time where Cleveland had success elsewhere that the Indians were in the World Series. The Indians were were winning the central doing well all Cleveland drafted LeBron James, the best basketball player on Earth at this moment. He brought them a title. So Cleveland hasn’t been all doom and gloom. They’ve had some success. And to be fair, I love with what Excuse me. What the Browns are doing on the football field here, they’re putting something together that I think it’s not they’re not just a flash in the pan because I’ve seen a lot of that talk recently where it was just like a Cinderella kind of season it will never be duplicated, it will not be repeated, but I beg to differ. I think the Cleveland Browns are in for a real run of success here in in the length of let’s just say what it is in the length of Baker Mayfield‘s career and if they can keep you know, chop and hunt together and maybe do away with Odell Beckham I know that we’re talking about the Carolina Panthers tonight but I go off on a tangent every once in a while but I would absolutely still say that the lions are the worst, you know, city for for sports. or excuse me, the lions are the worst team for football sports in terms of success when compared to the Cleveland Browns.

Alex  15:51

Okay, last one for me. What are your thoughts going into the season after the big trade? You get the new coach in there. How are you feeling? Is it is it just like every other year where hope springs eternal? As the offseason begins?

Chris Robin  16:08

Yeah, you talk an awful lot. You sound just like a lions fan. So you say you’re a Denver fan. And what I love is that people can’t see right now. But as soon as you started to ask your question, Alex, Derek kind of backed away from his microphone like, oh, boy, he’s gonna drop a whopper of a question on on Chris here. And you’re right. Every year. It’s the same thing for the lions fans. I could I could literally write it down a blueprint, month to month, week to week for a lions fan and for 20 473 65 in this portion of the season. Yeah. everybody’s excited in the city of Detroit about the draft, what can we do? It quarterback hasn’t been a position of need for what a year’s 1112 years since they drafted Stafford and now it is a bit kind of, but the question you asked me was what what? What do I feel personally, in the long term outlook of the lions? And I’ll answer that open. And honestly, I really know. I don’t know another way. And I’m, I’m happy and I’m positive. I’m optimistic too, because I can’t remember the last time as a lions fans, there was so much you know, positive ways to go positive opportunities. It’s always been well, we know what they’re going to be Stafford is going to do his thing he’s going to throw for 4500 yards and they’re gonna miss out on the playoffs. The NFC North title is, it’s already lost before the season has even started. But there are a lot of positive options. Right now I see personally, with the long term outlook of the Detroit Lions. So again, I say it every year, like this is the last season I’m really going to give them my heart and soul is the last season. I’m going to love the Detroit Lions with everything that I am. And then without fail this time every year is when like you said hope springs eternal, the tulips start blooming and you know, the grass starts growing as the snow fades away. And so do the lions fans, they start peeking out, they keep coming out of the woodwork and we’re excited for the draft. Let’s see how the draft goes. So if we met up this time in like three months, it’d be a completely different set of like feelings and emotions. But I know exactly what it would be. Because I’ve done the same thing for about 30 years here. So long term Long, long answer short, I’m very optimistic. And I’m very hopeful with the new coaching staff Dan Campbell, Brad Holmes, as the GM, I think it would be fantastic if they they use Jared golf to kind of bridge the gap for a couple seasons. Don’t blow your first round selection this season on a quarterback because you have several more leading up to it. Jared golf to me is a very capable quarterback. I’ve always been a Jared golf fan kid started in the Super Bowl. So I think they would do well. One of their options is to bridge the gap with golf or trade them away, or draft a kid like Zach Wilson seventh overall, and let him sit behind golf. I don’t know. But the app, you can see that the optimism and the positive different things we can talk about as the lions fan. So again, I probably said the same exact thing last year, I said the same thing in 1998 2004. Any year you name the year, I’ll tell you, I’m optimistic and I’m very hopeful for the lions.

Derek  19:14

It’s funny the way that you said that because Alex, towards the end of the season, the last couple of years that we’ve done this has written a rather, you know, epic breakup letter to the Denver Broncos, and you can catch that on the YouTube channel. Definitely, you know, hit a chord of remembrance on that one. So, Chris, before we move on there, you tell us real quick what you’ve got in the works as far as you know what you’ve got upcoming and what the, you know how the listeners can then connect with you as well.

Chris Robin  19:43

Sure. So I pride myself on you know, my availability. You can find me on Twitter at @DetroitBeastie, I’m on Facebook. And you know Chris Robin, it’s pretty simple. And that’s the thing. We mentioned it or I mentioned it earlier in the broadcast where I send out a lot of emails send messages to people as I was starting off, like some of the bigger name, guys or girls and nobody got back to me I was completely ghosted, and it made me feel awful. So when I started on this journey of writing and broadcasting, I said, I’m not going to be that way. I will answer anybody back, just give me a minute a DM, a tag and add a text message and email, I’ve given out my phone number, my email address, I don’t care because we’re all trying to do this together, I think we can all you know, succeed together, we need to support each other, and kind of, you know, go on this together here. And in terms of what I have going, I just recently joined the Undropables. There There are organization you know, as their DFS guy, and it was kind of odd. You know, they added me we This was in talks for a few months. And finally, when the season was over, they added me to like their group chats and everything and I was kind of looking around like, well, I got nothing to do. DFS is this regular season is done, I have nothing to do so I’m kind of just sitting there like a bomb. And I’m getting involved in a lot of their broadcasting. I’m going to do be doing some some blurbs and their their draft kit, I believe they’re putting together some IDP stuff. So again, as I said earlier, don’t pigeonhole yourself. Take everything in and be open and willing, and it’ll put you in a good position. Whenever you get to a point where you can really, you know, give yourself to other people. So I’m basically a Swiss Army Knife as it stands now for the Undropables.

Derek  21:26

Guys, let’s go ahead and jump on over into some news. And so Alex, I don’t know your read on this one yet, because I haven’t had the chance to. To get that but Carson Wentz was traded to the Colts for a 2021 third and a 2022 conditional second round pick. There’s some potential drama shaping up with the debt contract. Right now the Cowboys can tag him all the way up until about March 9, he’ll become a restricted free, unrestricted free agent come March 17. If the tag isn’t in place, and there’s no contract in place, if he is tagged, there’s about a 20% premium on last year’s deal, but he can’t be traded until either the tender signed or contracts in place. The Jaguars are expected to decline the option on Tyler Eifert who will now become a free agent. Trevor Lawrence‘s surgery went well according to reports, and you also saw the DeSean Jackson getting released there as well. So guys, what are your some of your thoughts here on some of the news?

Alex  22:28

Alright, so obviously I have thoughts on the Carson Wentz stuff. I think it is a good, it’s just good for everybody. Eagles are literally going into total rebuild mode. It’s good to hit the reset button and but it is a it’s a good thing. The fact that he went to Indianapolis was is also a good thing for Carson because he gets to reunite with Frank Reich, who was very instrumental in his success in Philadelphia. And as far as potential landing spots go, Indianapolis was the best one for for Carson. As everybody knows on this podcast, if you’ve listened to it, I am a Carson apologist. I know the guy. I like the guy. And I think that he still has a lot of good football left to play. So do I think that the Colts fleeced the Eagles in terms of return? A little bit, a third round and a second that could be a first conditionally depending on how Carson plays which I think the Eagles are banking on the fact that Carson is going to remember how to throw a football to somebody wearing the same uniform as him and then hang on to it when he’s tackled. That turns into probably a first round pick. So I think that I think that the Colts come out ahead in this one because they have I want to say a proven commodity that’s that fought the yips last year, and he will be able to if he gets back close to even what it was in 2017 I think that the Colts will be happy with that because there’s a much better team around him right he finally has an O wine that’s intact and not made up of dudes that they brought in off the street. The week before that he’s introducing himself to in the locker room 30 minutes before they have to go out there and protect them. They have a better established run game. They actually have a you know, pretty decent defense. That’s a playoff team with Philip Rivers and while I think that Carson Wentz is not Philip Rivers by any means and definitely wasn’t last year, he can be he can be to that level and I think that the Colts will be the exact same as they were last year whether or not they get past that you know in the playoff game is a different story, but that’s a very winnable division. It’s pretty wide open if you ask me. And he gets to play indoors, which is a good good thing for half the season and in warm weather. Any any other game in the division so it’s a good I think it’s a good situation for Carson. It’s the Eagles. My goodness, they are in a total I think rebuild now I think they’re gonna have to tank and then hope for the best in probably three or four years that they’ll be back being competitive after they go through a couple of drafts. But if Howie Roseman is running those drafts, who knows what’s going to happen, because he has proven that now he has no grasp on how to maintain success. He was able to get it once. And he has no grasp on how to maintain it. So I think that that’s a good move. Also, the cold staking on Carson’s contract was was a big deal. So called, you know, I think they come out ahead on that one. I’m interested in the deck stuff. Jerry Jones is such a wild card that I mean, what, when you think you know something about Jerry Jones, you don’t know any thing about Jerry Jones. It’s just what is going on in that man’s head. And as much as they say like, oh, his sons are running it now. And it is still very much jerry jones fingerprints all over that opposition. The day he relinquishes control of that organization is a day he’s put in the ground. So who knows what what’s gonna go on there. With the Dak situation, obviously, I think it was clear. You remember a couple years back when Peyton Manning got hurt the Colts were awful. I made a case that year that Peyton Manning should have won the MVP, because clearly, with Peyton Manning, they were a good football team. Without him. They were a four win team and they got Andrew Luck in the draft. To me that is the most valuable player, you removed one player from that team. And they’re now terrible. And I think that that’s kind of the situation that Dallas is it. They were so good with Dak Prescott. And then you remove that player from the team. And they were awful. I mean, they were in the weakest division in the NFL in however long and they still couldn’t find a way to get into the playoffs. They needed to win five games. And they still couldn’t do that to get into the playoffs. So I’ve been Jerry if he’s smart will retain Dak hopefully, you know his progress coming back from that injury is is going along.

Derek  26:57

Chris, any thoughts on the news?

Chris Robin  26:59

Yeah, my thing is, I’ll be short and sweet here. That’s been a hot button topic for about a week now actually the moment after it happened. And when it comes to Carson Wentz I feel lucky. In the fact where I nothing him I’m not like very high on him. I’m certainly not an apologist, but I don’t hate him. He does nothing to affect my my daily, everyday foot fantasy football kind of life here. So it’s just it’s he’s just there. Really, I’ve never owned him. I’ve never traded for him. Therefore, I’ve never traded him at all here, but him going to excuse me, Indianapolis. I think that’s a good move. It’s great for what they got for what they have around them. A young, who I believe is going to be an emerging wide receiver in this league Michael Pittman Jr. Its shore going to help having what looks to be a top five, maybe even top three running back coming into the season and for the foreseeable future. And all they have as Alex mentioned, they have a very good offensive line. But the only thing that bugs me about Carson Wentz right now, Alex took the words right out of my mouth. Yep, that’s a real thing. People go to you know, acupuncturists and stress management because the hips are a real thing. And for the layman, the hips are it’s just a confidence issue. He looked awful with Philadelphia last year. I think it had a lot to do with the coach, the head coach who was fired he had Doug Peterson if I’m not mistaken, had no idea what what to do and it really threw Wentz for a loop here. So once going to Indianapolis, I think that’s good for his long term outlook, along with the Indianapolis Colts. And in terms of Philadelphia, personally, the Washington football team has already passed them up Washington football team is going to be the cream of that division scrap for a few seasons now and I might be crazy for saying that, but they’re the way they’ve built their defensive line and the young kid like Cameron curl, stepping up in safety to take over for Landon Collins when he tore his Achilles here, Washington is I’m envious and who would have thought that that I someone would be envious of the way the Washington football team is building their team. So Philadelphia is now has now been pushed to the bottom of the East and I don’t see them getting out anytime soon. to Sean Jackson leaving whatever he comes and goes as he pleases it looks like in the NFL in terms of teams, he’s in his early to mid 30s which is you know, basically you might as well get out of the league as a like a young burner kind of wide receiver so all in all, it was fantastic for the Colts and all in all, it was awful for Philadelphia but even if they kept once Philadelphia was still going to be awful keeping him in a city or keeping anybody in a toxic horrible situation like that is not good for anybody involved. So I’m going to have my I the one thing I do want to say out of all this, the most interesting thing here is what do the Eagles do with six overall? Is it Jalen hertz his team if they draft another quarterback that would be catastrophic for people that that have Jalen hertz on their team, what happens number six overall, is where my eyes are going to be on in this year’s draft.

Derek  30:07

Yeah, and I’ve seen all sorts of crazy type of things when, you know, looking at some of the mock drafts that are out there and your draft scene is in is very quickly approaching and very quickly upon us. So make sure that you’re doing your research and looking into that. But I’ve seen all sorts of different mocks, taking, you know, Zach Wilson or Justin Fields, if that if they’re there at six, or taking a guy like Kyle Pitts, which again, seems a little strange that you’re taking another tight end to mix into a tight end room that already still has Zach Ertz and Dallas Goddard on it. So there’s a lot of just kind of very interesting things there. And I’m right there with you, Chris. and wanting to keep that eye on what that sixth pick is going to be. Some of the interesting things that I’ve kind of heard and seen out there is some of the thoughts that I’ve been seeing floating around there, which is that Jalen hertz is now going to be a top five QB for fantasy next year, and I don’t subscribe to that at all. And that comes as a as a guy that watched Jalen play in college. I’m an Oklahoma fan, we we already know that. And so it’s one of those that I’m not gonna subscribe to that one. I don’t know that he’s gonna break top 12 that’s kind of where I’m thinking there, as far as Carson go into, to the into the Colts. A lot of other things where I’ve seen a lot of people talking about the fact that his weapons didn’t necessarily improve from a wide receiver room. And that’s something that I would also disagree with, because you already mentioned the name of Michael Pittman, Jr, I think that he’s got a lot of upside and I think we just started to see this started to see him scratch the surface of what he’s truly capable of. But another guy out there that’s still on the roster that is incredibly talented and oftentimes gets forgotten about is a guy named Parris Campbell. And I really wish that Kevin was here to throw his two cents in on Parris Campbell because he has a wonderful take on you know, Parris Campbell vers scary Terry McLaurin, who everybody is high on Terry McLaurinParris Campbell was the better wide receiver at Ohio State had better measurables coming out and is a guy that we just haven’t seen what his true potential is. And him coming back healthy with that team. And with that thing, I think you could see a massive improvement for him. And I think Carson actually gets a big bump up when it comes to fantasy now because he’s got so much you know, so many better weapons around him and surrounding him.

Alex  32:30

I know I know that we’ll we’ll get to this probably when we cover the Colts here in a few weeks when when we get down that way. But do you think that that Carson Wentz is now in QE? Let’s just call it is he a top 10 quarterback?

Derek  32:46

No.

Alex  32:47

Okay, fair enough.

Derek  32:48

 Alex

Chris  32:48

I don’t think so, either if it matters, no,

Derek  32:50

I’ll bump him up from when we talked about him a little bit ago with the Eagles were you know, I’m pretty sure we had him right around qb 20. When we were looking at before this trade goes through. I don’t think that that’s still the case. I think he’s now probably closer to quarterback 1415 in that range. So he gets a bump up but it’s not going to be considerable bump up. I think he’s still got some things to figure out and I think the Colts are gonna lean on that on that run attack behind that offensive line with that very good running back that they’ve got.

Alex  33:18

One quick note before we move on from this. It will be interesting to see you guys keep talking about Michael Pittman who has come out and said I’m not giving up my number 11 Jersey for Carson Wentz. I don’t care who he is. Will Michael Pittman get the football if Carson Wentz is having to wear number 10 or number 12? Or, God forbid, I don’t think he can wear his high school number which was number 21. Will Michael Pittman get the ball thrown his way if he doesn’t get his desired jersey choice? It’s it’s a completely batshit crazy question, but there is some merit to it.

Derek  33:53

If Carson wants the resurrection of his career that he needs to have happen. He’s gonna have to throw the ball to Michael Pittman.

Alex  34:01

Yeah, it’s fair, wearing probably a different uniform number. And

Chris Robin  34:04

I’d like to think in all cases I’ve seen you know, a guy comes in and his number is on another player, you know, said first player throws a ton of cash. So maybe Carson Wentz will give Michael Pittman 100 k 150 k just for a number on a jersey which I would imagine Michael Pittman Jr. would gladly take

Alex  34:25

Michael Pittman said no amount of money you know, which I find that hard to believe there’s everything.

Derek  34:32

Everything has a price and everything’s negotiable. How agree with you. Alright, guys, let’s go ahead and move on over into some draft prospects. And the way we’re going to do this one is we’re going to set it up with the top three for each of the positions and we’re really only going to look at quarterback wide receiver running back here. So what are the top three, you know, positional players in those positions that you are looking at for the draft season? How do you think that that’s gonna play out? Let’s go ahead and start With the quarterback.

Alex  35:01

Okay, so with I think we’re all in agreement here and I don’t know that there’s ever been a more consensus number one overall pick, that’s going to be Trevor Lawrence like Trevor Lawrence is going to be the number one overall pick. And I can’t remember, just right off the top of my head if we’ve ever had more, more consensus number one overall. That that’s a good yeah, that is a good one. Andrew Luck was definitely a surefire thing. And tell you what if Trevor Lawrence has half the career that Andrew Luck had good on him. So obviously, Trevor Lawrence at quarterback is good to go number one overall, but I have a sour taste in my mouth from the National semifinal of what Trevor Lawrence was, and I don’t know if it was a scheme thing or what, but they tried to run him a little bit, and it didn’t work very well. As I recall watching that game, it just didn’t work. So to me, Trevor Lawrence is a very good passer if they try to run in which we know Urban Meyer likes to utilize the running quarterback in the college game. Will that translate to the NFL and I just don’t know that that Trevor Lawrence is going to be that effective runner in the NFL and let’s be real guys. The reason why, you know some of these quarterbacks are so effective in fantasy is because they rack up those those brushing yards, and they do a nice job with it. Think about Lamar Jackson from two years ago. And yeah, Pat Mahomes isn’t exactly a runner anymore, although he ran for 500 yards but didn’t get credit for any of them in the Super Bowl. I still think that having a running quarterback at least for fantasy and at least for some of these rookies, is going to benefit you more so while Trevor Lawrence i think is going to be an over an overspend, I’m a little more interested in stashing away a tray, Lance, you know, having him having him be on your bench so that you can play that card when he’s ready to be played. Justin Fields i think is another one that, you know, obviously he’s going to be highly sought after, wherever he goes. And I I think I would stay away from that as well. Just because I think the price is going to be too high. Derek.

Derek  37:29

So Alex random, real quick. 123, who you got at the position of quarterback with these rookies.

Alex  37:35

So I’ll take Lance first and that’s definitely a biased opinion. Then I’d go Lawrence and then fields and that’s nothing against the kid out of BYU. I just think that I would rather have Lance Long term.

Derek  37:49

Gotcha. Chris, who are you looking at when it’s coming to quarterbacks? Are you writing those top three,

Chris Robin  37:55

I’ll keep it brief. In breezed through mine, if you guys don’t mind. It’s Trevor LawrenceZach Wilson. And then Justin Fields for me. I just can’t allow myself to back in Ohio State kind of quarterback here as a Michigan fan. And again, I was able to watch a lot of what he did here. And I think he’s going to struggle in the in the NFL, short term again, I’m not trying to get in on the Ohio State quarterbacks don’t farewell in the NFL here, but I just Trevor Lawrence it there’s nothing needs to be said there’s no explanation, what what’s known doesn’t need to be explained or something that that’s the saying here. And I love I’ve seen a lot of Zach Wilson play too. And he just does something for me. So I’m going to, as I said, Trevor LawrenceZach Wilson, and Justin Fields.

Derek  38:42

I’m going to be the contrary one here again, mix it up from what both of you said, I’m going to go with Lawrence fields and Wilson as far as far as my rankings go. And it’s really just kind of based on how they fared and how they played in the in college, the level of competition there and watching fields pick apart that Clemson defense in that semifinal game. So Brett Venables, a guy that I’ve I’ve followed his defense as a defensive coordinator all the way back to when he was here at Oklahoma and that was one of the I still maintain that was one of the biggest mistakes the Sooners ever made was not keeping him around because the defense’s that he puts up as usually one of the best in the nation. And to watch Justin field just pick that apart. Every single play of the game like it was it was something else to watch. It’s usually not something that you see happen to a Brent Venables defense. So that was one that I was on the fence very much kind of leading up into that and the more that I look at that, that’s what kind of moved him ahead of Wilson. For me. I think Wilson has a ton of talent. But really where I come back to is that national semifinal game, watching him pick apart one of the best defenses year in year out. Let’s go ahead and move on over into some running backs. And that’s usually where a lot of fantasy value lies. They’re so give me your break down 123 on the running backs.

Alex  40:05

Okay, so Najee Harris one, I’ll go Etienne two and honestly, I could flip flop on either of those that’s like one at one a, as far as I’m concerned and then javante Williams three.

Chris Robin  40:16

Yeah, my mind’s almost similar. It’s going to be without a doubt. It’s going to be Najee Harris one javante Williams two. And then I’m going to I want to say this kind of joking around, but I love what I’ve seen from Kenny Gainwell. Any self respecting, you know, dynasty or fantasy football writer, you would know that that’s not truly my number three. But in terms of personal preference for fantasy football purposes, it’s going to be nausia Harris javante Williams and Kenny gain. Well,

Derek  40:48

I’m a little surprised not to hear a Travis Etienne up there for you. It seems to be everybody’s favorite pic right now kind of looking through everything. So mine is again going to be a little different. That’s why I love getting some other people’s thoughts here. I’m going to go with Najee Harris. Right. I think he’s kind of Derrick Henry with better hands. So especially landing spot there. could see some phenomenal things happen. From a from a fantasy football perspective. I’m gonna go with Etienne there. I think he’s kind of a complete back. Great hands has the ability to run. And we’ve seen him play some major competition and really bring some things to life there. So that’s gonna be my number two. My number three is a guy named Trey Sermon who finished his career out of Ohio State, but played a lot of football for the Oklahoma Sooners and is a guy that again, has a ability to be a three down true workhorse type of back in the NFL and as a guy that I think is going to fly under a lot of a lot of radars when it comes to the folks in the fantasy community and one that you know, keep an eye on where he lands because that could be something very special for fantasy next year. Let’s go ahead and take a look at wide receivers. What are you thinking as far as wide receivers 123

Chris Robin  42:03

another easy one for me. This is it’s going to be jomar chase number one, Rondale Moore number two and Devonta Smith number three and again Devonta Smith it looks to be a fantastic wide receiver and I’m not people are again people will try and put you down or tell you that your own opinion is wrong here so I’d be silly not to have demand Devonta Smith in my top three just so happens he’s number three so chase rondelle more who I could move up to number one so easily but I’m going to leave them at two and then davante Smith at three

Alex  42:40

Okay, so I’m gonna go Chase one. And then I will go Waddle to and then Rashod Bateman three.

Derek  42:48

Interesting. Very, I like it. Yeah, for me, it’s it’s Chase, get even with him sitting out that year, what we saw with him and Burrow together, the seals it for me, number one, I have a hard time though not going with the Heisman winner and the first Heisman winner in several years at a wide receiver position with Devonta Smith go on there. And I’ve kind of gone back and forth between both Bateman and Moore. As far as who that number three is. And I’ve been you know, the more I dig into it, the more I look at more, as far as kind of that number three guy there. I think he’s provides a ton of upside and is a guy that again, is going to fly under the radar a little bit when it comes to fantasy next year, and could be a guy that you could get a ton of value out of the draft next year,

Alex  43:36

I would like to defend my Bateman pick. He was relevant on a Minnesota team. That was hardly I mean, they were okay. Last year, they were ranked and everything for a while there. But that just doesn’t happen very often. So the fact that he was relevant is why I threw him in there, then yeah, probably probably should include the reigning Heisman, but I think we’re going to see an embarrassment of riches at Wide Receiver This year, especially on the on the top end.

Derek 44:03

Yeah, this is two years back to back that have just great wide receivers out in the draft. So it’ll be very interesting to see. And guys, make sure you’re staying tuned for all for all the content coming up, make sure that you’re really diving in there, because it will have a big impact on fantasy next year. We saw that happen over the last several years, the draft position will matter. The draft capital will matter and landing spot will absolutely matter for these guys. So make sure you’re paying attention to that one. I do want to you know, thank Chris again for coming on and being our guest tonight. I was an absolute phenomenal time having you here and an absolute blast. Thank you.
