Alex, this one’s for you. All right. Welcome into a another. Is it too boring? We gotta go real. Oh, All righty. Welcome in ladies and gentlemen to another episode of the good old boys fantasy football Podcast. I am Derrick and I am joined by your co host, Alex. Kevin, unfortunately, he’s got some jlb going on tonight. So he’s not gonna be able to join us Alex, how you doing bud?

Alex 00:36
Doing good. I know that you guys up there in Colorado had to deal with some snow and for once in like the last six years. I’ve been able to avoid said snow storm, even though we had to deal with that stuff in February. But yeah, it is nice to be getting closer to draft day and getting closer to seeing some more of these pro day workouts and the combine stuff come in. I was pretty fun to follow along with with North Dakota state’s pro day obviously. Last Friday, so that was a was a good time to see what some of the guys did. And I know like a lot of people they were glued to their TVs while watching Trey Lance throw the football in a 60 throw script that they did completed like 48 or 49 of his passes. And yeah, just just getting closer making sure our evaluations are are on point. I know mine won’t be

Derek 01:39
well. You can always hope for next year right?

Alex 01:42
Just try you try. That’s all you can do. You try.

Derek 01:44
I like it. Guys. We do have a very special guest. Joining us tonight Stephie Smallls is making the her first appearance on the good old boys Stephie How you doing?

Stephie 01:55
I’m doing great. I’m pumped. I showed up two hours too early to this. And but I’m happy I got here on time. I have my claws and ready to rock with the good ol boys.

Interview with Stephie Smallls

Derek 02:08
I like it. We appreciate you taking the time out and coming on with us. If you guys haven’t had a chance to already, and I’m sure most of you have because her Twitter handle blows up, hop over there. She’s great follow on Twitter, lots of great content coming your way. Steffi, one thing though we always got to know from anybody that comes on the show is how did you get your start in fantasy football and in the fantasy football industry?

Stephie 02:35
This always cracks me up because so I was a medical student at a Caribbean island. And then COVID said, No, thank you. You’re going home and you need to live in your dad’s basement. I’m not there right now. But that was the case. I got bored as crap during quarantine. I said, Let’s redownload Twitter. Why not? It sounds chaotic. It sounds fun. And then I you know, I think it was around the draft started getting a little bit of a following 200 followers in October turned into whatever it is now. I think Leonard Fournette who was one of my Leonard Fournette tweets. And I think it blew up a little bit and ever since then things have just been you know, I’m just doing my thing and being myself being as authentic genuine as you if you talk to me in the grocery store, it’s there’s nothing different than what you got Twitter maybe not as loud but

Alex 03:33
that’s good stuff, though you were kind of forced into this with the with the pandemic. We were already sitting in our basements doing this before the world stopped.

Stephie 03:45
Not in the basement anymore. from being a troll on Twitter like going crazy and laughing at the Cowboys taking CeeDee Lamb and then regretting it later.

Alex 03:58
I think we were all shocked by that one too to be honest. When when CeeDee came off the board at Dallas pick it so Steffi, you are in kind of a rare position. You a woman talking fantasy football, and that is so cool. First off, let me tell you how awesome i think that that is. The game is for everyone. And the fact that you are involved in it is so so cool. I think more women need to get involved in sports. And it is incumbent upon us to allow that to happen. So I can’t tell you how thrilled I am to be talking to you. How do you feel about being kind of this this woman figure on Twitter, given your fantasy football advice given that the guise of my gender aren’t exactly the friendliest when it comes to takes even from our own our own gender, gender types?

Stephie 04:57
Yeah, so it’s interesting. I feel like maybe I didn’t Answer the last question that well so football is huge for me. I actually get my fandom from my mother. So my mom is a big Giants fan. And that’s something I’ve said at a couple podcasts not ever knows is that was you know, Sunday’s were meat balls, pasta and the New York Giants or some of my family’s in Miami Dolphins fan but it’s okay, we really need to get into it. All right, that’s a fairly beefy. But yeah, so my mom is the Giants fan and growing up. I never I didn’t really know that girls were not into sports until I wore a Plaxico brez Jersey to middle school. I got bullied for it. And I don’t know who number 17 is you kidding me? What is wrong with you girls? But no. So it’s an you know, football is something I’ve been very passionate about my brother played for a while the line is like, my that is my guilty pleasure. I love and adore it asides for the tight ends. Another podcast, we could do completely on tight ends. But yeah, so it was all football for a while. And then I got my opportunity. I’ve been playing fantasy for a very long time, kind of in the, in the, in the dark, like not really telling anyone they’ve been doing it for over a decade. And I got a shot to start writing for doing some fancy content. And then it kind of took off from there. And now I’m with FTN, which is awesome. And I think that you know, so it’s easy to say that men are no not the friendliest. I’ll use your terms so that I don’t go off the rails.

Alex 06:34
Yeah, no, very fast. It’s very, very fair.

Stephie 06:36
I also I’ve met really amazing men that are very accepting of it. So I try to also be positive about it. Because I think there are more accepting men than there are men that are like, Oh, you’re a girl. And and I try to always have even a discussion. Like, when I can tell that someone’s being very hostile about it, I will reach out and dm them and say, just like I was totally down, we can totally chop it up. Like, is there what is bothering you about the fact that I’m talking about football? Because I mean, coming from a medical standpoint, your penis does not hold your football knowledge, right, like so it comes from your brain, and we all have one. So why is it because you played football in high school? Or what is it that really is making you upset and I mean, obviously, not everyone reacts very well to me, dming them but and I also can be reactive to because I feel like I have to fight the you know, the war I gender, like in the fantasy football world. And like now I gotta, I gotta fight all these men off to like, because not every woman is as strong as I will call myself a strong woman. And there was dark days in the beginning of it, of course. But not everyone is like that. And some people are very sensitive. And they take some very seriously. I mean, the amount of time someone told me to go into the kitchen a day, it was like I would be a billionaire. If you gave me $1 for every time someone said that. And not everyone takes as lately. And I you know, I think that one of the things that when I first started out that I was very adamant about is I try to make football very inviting to everyone. So I think that what happens is we scare females off with our numbers and our play calls and, and you know, all these, this is what happens is it comes off very intimidating. It doesn’t need to be intimidating when we’re in a pandemic. And football is something that we can all enjoy together. Let’s enjoy it. So I tend to keep things light. Those of you that do follow me on Twitter, it’s very, you know, I’m trying to keep it light and friendly because I want it to be inviting. If you want to chop it up, trust me, I’m gonna chop it up with you. But I don’t need to always make it like that. It doesn’t always have to be like that we can all just enjoy the sport for what it is. It’s not that serious.

Alex 08:55
I’ll tell you what the funniest thing is it is a bunch of adults getting way too intense about another bunch of probably younger adults playing a child’s game. And it dawned on me the first time I you know, I never really take it too seriously. I think it’s it’s, it’s fun. And when it stops being fun, then go do something else. But it dawned on me when I went to my first Vikings training camp and I was there watching guys that were younger than me that had just graduated from college. I’d been out of college for a couple years. And I’m watching them practice like they’re practicing. I’m watching them try to get better at the thing that’s paying them handsomely to play a child’s game like it was unbelievable to me to be in kind of that that moment and realize just exactly what I was doing and what I was watching.

Stephie 09:53
You guys realize that this is like and I never was someone that really followed celebrities like if you show me a picture of Kate Hudson or Who are these? Like, I don’t know who that is. I swear to god if you showed me Ben Affleck I would be like, I don’t know who the hell that is like, if you want to show me like Jeremy Shockey Yeah, I can tell you exactly like I was never someone that followed celebrities and I get it now it’s like it’s so psychotic to be like super obsessed with these people but even being a content creator being someone that puts out content as a fantasy football, whatever you want to call I don’t know what what we’re called entirely. I don’t know the ad love content creator. But if you’re not having fun doing this, if you’re not having fun watching football, if you’re not having fun playing fantasy, you’re doing it wrong. 100% like this should be fun. This is a fun thing. So if you’re taking it so seriously that you are worked up you are not having fun and you are not doing it right like it’s so bizarre to me.

Alex 10:53
I will I will add to that though it fun and frustrated. You’re allowed to experience both you’re allowed to be frustrated. Still have fun.

Stephie 11:00
Yes. I get frustrated.

Alex 11:03
frustrating. Frustrating is the most aside from gleeful joy. You should also be frustrated too, because fantasy football is very frustrating.

Stephie 11:14
Overwhelming your life and you’re angry all the time.

Alex 11:17
Yes. Agreed.

Derek 11:20
Steph, you said that you’ve played fantasy for a little over a decade. Now. Talk to me about some of your fantasy teams last year how’d you fare in your in your fantasy teams? You know how many leads Did you play in? Did you come home with any ships?

Stephie 11:34
I did so I did pretty well last year and I will give that credit to my Josh Allen Stefon Diggs call. So in my redraft leagues I I really felt that one coming I loved I just loved the idea that chemistry I felt like you know, it Stefon Diggs wasn’t really having his potential unlocked unlocked yet. And you know, you see that a lot when these players you know, paired with that Josh out and it just seemed so sexy to me. So a lot of my wins came from teams that I had both of them on there, the teams that I lost, were the teams that I was like, You know what, this year a tight end is not going to screw me and I’m going to take kiddle as early as possible and then the bastard had to get hurt, right so so and you know, and I recovered pretty nicely but I think that it you know, you can’t recover from taking kiddle at as in the second round and say point in the first right so that’s not you don’t recover from that very well. And then having Dak is your quarterback right? Explain to me how you were and I did okay, you know, I picked up time unit at the right time. And if you didn’t end up i’d second third and a couple of leagues and now I’ve just gone off the rails with leagues I’m in like 26 draft startup drafts right now for dicey leagues I just I’m definitely overdoing it a little bit but I last year was not not as pretty as I hoped but in those Josh Allen Diggs leagues I did I want every single one it was awesome. It’s cool thank you.

Alex 13:08
So what’s your What’s your favorite type of League to play in? Are you are you a fan of dynasty or a fan of redraft? Do you like playing like basketball tight end premium super flex what’s kind of your ideal and your favorite league to play in

Stephie 13:21
right so since I never disliked my I don’t know what do you call it the industry now that I’m in the industry? I’m like getting a you know i’m i’m learning a little bit more about how people play I do like redraft there’s redrafted my heart I just I do I do love me to redraft but dynasty is growing on me so some of my first I see leagues I’m not I didn’t know what I was doing and now that I understand the art and the beauty of it there’s to you know, like actually plan instead of just being an idiot for the first time and but I love myself some Titan premium Let me tell you I love that I’ve like been I most of the league so I do interviews for sleeper wire on the channel and I they’ve made a bunch of leaks for me. We’re like giving them away for charity. The prizes are all signed jerseys and balls and whatever. They’re all tied in premium leagues. I made them super flex. And though that’s super fun, I think that I don’t like to QB leagues though. Can we talk about that? Especially right now?

Alex 14:29
Whoa, whoa, how do you play a super flex without a two QB? Like that’s just that’s bonkers. No,

Stephie 14:36
I hate like two QB and then like four super flex league.

Alex 14:39
Okay. Yeah,

Stephie 14:41
now Okay, like everyone settled down. How do we do that? Like I just can’t especially not in you know, not, not in this not in this economy. Come on. Now.

Derek 14:50
You said that you’re venturing out and playing in more and more leagues this year. Have you ventured into any of the you know, some of the stranger formats like pirate Lee Or guillotine leagues or vampire leagues?

Stephie 15:03
No, I don’t even know what that is. Like I will always be honest, I don’t know. You’re talking.

Alex 15:11
We just did. Okay, I’ll tell you a quick story cuz I

Stephie 15:16
I want to be a vampire.

Alex 15:18
I’m I’m bitter about the pirate league because I didn’t I didn’t know what it was either. So I I was in way too many leagues last year to pay attention with everything else that was going on in life and just in general so Derek could Conde there could conned me into playing in a pirate league? And I didn’t know what it was. I didn’t know what it was. And so the first week I lost and the guy comes after Christian McCaffrey and somebody else it was when CMC was healthy. And I was like, no, what is that? Like? This is terrible. The pirate league you know, you get to protect a couple players. And then if you lose whoever you lose, do gets to poach whatever players. You didn’t protect. Yeah.

Stephie 16:02
I need to play that.

Alex 16:05
Oh, yes. It’s a fantastic idea. Had I known what I was getting myself into. I think I would play in a pirate league in the future, knowing what I know now. We just did our first Gaea team league this year, which is something that I had heard about. on the radio no less. Somebody was was chilling their website about Gaea teen leagues and Gaea team league is the lowest score of the week. We’ll get eliminated from the league and then their players go into the available player pool. So yeah, pick them up on free agency.

Stephie 16:42
You guys are blowing my mind, you need to get where you find them.

Derek 16:50
We’ve we actually run a couple

Alex 16:51
we madeour own guillotine. The pirate league was on sleeper. But yeah, I think if you just go kind of hunting for it, you probably find your way into one

Stephie 17:03
feel very left out.

Alex 17:06
we’re gonna get to guillotine again, we’ll get a spot for you to get to. We really do

Stephie 17:11
that. So perfect.

Alex 17:14
It’s a pretty fun concept. Yeah,

Derek 17:16
yeah, it’s a blast. So

Stephie 17:20
sometimes, you know, when you play the lead, and you’re like this person is just doesn’t serve to be here, either. It’s like, I feel like that gets rid of like, go away. If you’re not going to try it like it is.

Alex 17:32
It is survival of the fittest. And I tried to employ a for the first time I just I thought, you know what, I’ll just go with a strategy of just get to week, whatever it was that our first chop happened. I think it was like week three, week four or whatever. And then try and pick up players through the waiver wire, you get a you have a fab budget and all that stuff. So you can’t go crazy. But it didn’t work out. I was one of the last I think four or five teams, maybe one of the last three or four. I don’t remember dirt. But yeah, it’s a very, very interesting way to play fantasy football. Extremely chaotic from week to week.

Derek 18:15
I am a fan of that. It’s very quickly becoming one of my favorite types of leagues to play in is some of those, you know, a guillotine League, a pirate league or a vampire league just has an odd little twist in there because then you’ve got to it’s another thing that you’ve got to be strategic about going through it’s not about just just having the best players and the best rosters and you’ve got to have that and additional feci on top of it. So a lot of fun there. But Stephie, how can all the listeners connect with you through your socials?

Stephie 18:46
Sure, it’s very easy. So be smart with three L’s Same thing for Instagram and Twitter. And basically everything I do is on there. I work for FTM network right now. But usually I try to keep everyone very updated on what I’m going through my Twitter like you can basically figure out what’s going on through my Twitter everything’s in my bio. Whenever you’re looking for to DM me if you really want to know my schedule, we could talk about it. Usually what you can find everything on my on my profile.

2021 NFL Free Agency

Derek 19:18
There is a lot of news going on. In in case y’all have not heard there’s a little thing called free agency going on in the NFL. And he heard about it. Yeah, I was beginning to think yesterday that we’re the only team that had started

Alex 19:36
and wouldn’t put it past Bill Belichick to be like, okay, free agency happens, but like happens for us 24 hours before everybody else.

Stephie 19:44
Yeah, yeah. And like every time I pick my phone up, I’m like to Billy B, you need someone fix him. He put the bottle down, bro, we get it. You’re mad. Brady won a Super Bowl. You’re all stop got it man.

Derek 19:59
You drove point home, you summed it up perfectly, the phone just kept going and kept going and kept going and kept going. And like, I had to go get some new energizers just to keep that thing rolling, with all the news popping through on that thing. But, guys, kind of right now with how the landscape sits, what do you see as being the most impactful free agent signing out there?

Alex 20:20
One of the biggest ones was Aaron Jones staying put in Green Bay, and we all kind of thought that maybe he would go elsewhere that maybe he would find a new landing spot that the Packers would move on, we could not have been more wrong, because they signed him to a pretty healthy deal there in Green Bay. And I think when the news came out about that you Derek, you had sent a text to the group. And I had come back and said that annoys you. Here are AJ Dillon fantasy owners screaming their lungs out because they’re so angry that Aaron Jones is still going to be in Green Bay. So that one to me is that’s one of the bigger pieces that we thought was was going to have a major impact in the fantasy world. The one that digest saw not too long ago was Carlos Hyde going to Jacksonville. And what does that mean for James Robinson now? Is James Robinson losing kind of his spot in the pecking order down there? Well, they tried to take some of the load off of James Robinson, and he was such a revelation for people last year in his rookie season. So those are the two pretty big ones. I mean, obviously, these teams are doing things on the offensive defensive line, you know, that are going to have an impact on on, you know, other fantasy players. But you know, for our purposes, right now, not really anything too big. I guess the other one, too, that that was kind of interesting. Was Johnny Smith going to the Pats? And I’m not Yeah, I’m not sure I’m sold on all of that. I mean, he was he was good. Last year, and we know that tannehill likes to, you know, use the tight end a little bit more that that’s kind of what that offense was was run the football short passes, you know, maybe take the top off of the defense when you could, but that was really a run first. And you know, they were going to be a beefy team. That’s that’s what Tennessee was, and no better way than to get your tight end involved. So we’ll see how that works out with cam coming back. What will the Patriots do in the draft? Will they go quarterback in the draft and just have kind of a stopgap year with with cam and let a young rookie develop. But obviously, I think the Patriots right now are the team that everybody’s got their eyes on, because of what they’ve been doing in free agency and picking up some pretty decent names that that were out there and available.

Stephie 22:44
So I’ll do I’ll touch on two one is Fitzpatrick. So Washington is huge. mungus I mean, make Lauren stocks could not be higher right now. This is like the hottest thing ever. I love the skill players in Washington. I think that this is probably you know, I was hoping for Winston over there. I think that that maybe would have been a sexier option. I think they could have gotten a little bit more longevity. I think that now Don’t be surprised and this is something that everyone is not really I know we’re all high and fits magic. I got it. I get it. It’s very cool. But don’t be shocked if Washington still trades up and gets a quarterback right like this is that is the perfect scenario for them. You know you get fits in there to still secure a nice playoff spot for you. God bless my New York Giants. But I mean he is someone that could still elevate he still elevates his offense. He’s gonna make these skill players very hot and fantasy. And I but don’t be shocked if they still go in and get a young guy to be quarterback because fixes what 38 years old. This is not a spring chicken and fix magic has to die out at some point. It’s just how it works. This is like your body. Yeah, it has to I know I’m sorry. I know. I know. But it has to happen. And but this is exciting. So I mean, I was counting last night I have 17 teams I have MC Lord and I’m pumped. I mean, I got this guy like the sixth or out of all of them. Are you kidding? You idiots I stole him from you. But besides for that, I think that the two tight ends in in New England is so cool. I don’t know that it’s cool for a fantasy perspective. And I think that I’m liking john you over hunter like I’m not. I just don’t like Henry that much. I never did. Um, he doesn’t get me excited. Um, I think if anyone can elevate to tight ends, it’s Bill belcheck. You saw what he did with Hernandez and gronk. This is not Hernandez in gronk, though, so don’t get super excited and go take you know Johnny or Henry in in the third round of your startup. You’re not going to get what you think you’re going to get. But is it giving him weapons, is it allowing them to, you know, run the ball, you know? Yes, still a little bit. I think that it’s not going to be exactly what everyone thinks. I think everyone’s getting a little too excited, because please remember that this is not Brady with the ball. So and this is not Hernandez and this is not gronk. So I, I’m excited about it. I like jonnu I like Johnny’s upside, I think that he will be at the end of the day, but two tight ends are probably going to be their top two targets this entire year. I will bet money on it. They’re going to go into that scheme that they used to do historical patriots. Billy B has a chip on his shoulder he’s ready to rock and roll so but between the two of them I think Johnny has the higher upside there’s a day i’m not i’m not buying in 200 I just not doing it I don’t care you guys no one can tell me anything genius. He’s just a he’s an awesome athlete. And I I’m excited to see what he does over there.

Derek 26:00
I agree there’s few tight ends out there that can line up out wide they can shift into the slot they can play the tight end and can actually be a running back we saw that happen on a couple of plays last year in Tennessee as well. So you’re right he’s just a an athletic, athletic guy that can get up and move the field. I would expect New England to really run a lot of 12 personnel next year really see a ton of that and utilize it because Hunter Henry was only going to get you usually about 1213 games a year he’s got a little bit of an injury bug throughout his career there but he’s exceptional in past block and an even run block out there as well and has that little tail out and pick up some some yardage there so I like both of those guys there especially since the Patriots didn’t really go out and make a splash from a wide wide receiver perspective right they got a couple of guys that they brought in with Kendrick born and Nelson angle or but neither one of those guys has really come to fruition in the in the NFL. So the New England Patriots wide receiver rooms just kind of an interesting anomaly for me where you’ve got mckeel Harry still there you just brought in Nelson angle or and you’ve got Kendrick born so it’ll be interesting to see how they split those guys out and use them.

Stephie 27:24
Weird signing to me I mean like you’re looking for your past catcher right? And you’re like, oh, let me pick the guy who is tied for the entire NFL in 2024 drop axes like hell, it was just bizarre to be there’s not enough magic fairy dust and Billy B’s couch to fix that I feel like like, I think it’s just because he’s gonna rely on the tweet ends.

Alex 27:48
The The best part about the Nelson Agholor signing though was the resurgence of the meme of the guy from Philadelphia who caught his neighbor that jumped from the third story or whatever it was second story of the burning building. He said I caught that. Now like Aguilar and then gives the site to the camera, the resurgence of that that gift and that meme was the best part about the Aguilar signing. Let’s talk about quarterbacks though, because there has been a few of the quarterback pieces have fallen into place Cam Newton resigning in New England. Fitzpatrick going to Washington, which we all kind of thought Kevin thought that Fitzpatrick was going to come to Denver did yeah. And Denver did avoid the bullet that we all thought was headed our way if it wasn’t going to be Ryan Fitzpatrick because the Chicago Bears for some reason have decided to pay Andy Dalton $10 million to go play quarterback for them. I’m not sure what’s going on in Chicago.

Derek 28:49
Leave it to the Bears to fall on that grenade.

Alex 28:51
I don’t think that Andy Dalton is the answer there. But while I think he is a statistical improvement from Mitch Trubisky I still don’t think he is a wins and losses improvement from Mitch Trubisky. Or, Nick.

Stephie 29:07
What I always feel like the front office wants to lose their jobs with that one like I it’s To be honest, I don’t think that we’re gonna see a lot of the same management the following year i i think that this was it’s the poor it’s a poor choice, you know, and any dog I will give credit to I said and I’ve had takes on my own Twitter where if jack was to leave then sign up. I think any Don is a very functional quarterback. I will give him credit. I mean, he he very much got them way farther than anyone could have imagined. But the bears should have fought harder for some of these. I think they’re like too timid, like yes, we’re gonna have to give up khaleel Mac to get Deshaun Watson. That’s how it works. So I don’t know what their plan is. They’re not in a good position to draft a court. I don’t know what the hell they’re thinking. game. They should have fought harder for Winston. I don’t I don’t know what’s going on over there, but it’s not looking pretty them in Seattle are not in a good position.

Alex 30:08
The other one was Jamis Winston resigning in New Orleans. That was a very interesting resigning there because I think we were all kind of curious as to what was going to happen. Will it? Was it going to be you know, new blood in in New Orleans? Or were they going to try and do the Taysom Hill experience experiment some more? Or was Jane is going to be the guy and I I’m still not sold on the fact that it won’t be tasting Hill taking snaps week one. I think that that’s a very real possibility down there because I think Sean Payton is making his bed right now. And that’s it. I just think that that’s what’s gonna happen.

Stephie 30:46
I think they’re being selfish. Like I think that they don’t want to let go Winston because they know that it’s a possibility that he could actually be there to be one. And I just think they’re being selfish. Like let them do leave like you’re like obviously luring him in you creeps like what is wrong with you let this guy go. It’s like you want to pay pcem and you want to pay Winston? But then you make it confusing for all of us. Which one is your to be what we really don’t know at this point.

Alex 31:16
I’m not sold that New Orleans knows either.

Derek 31:18
No, I don’t think they do. And I think that’s part of the reason they made that move. But isn’t with Taysom Hill they they restructure that deal to the point where the back the back part of that guy is very voidable to the point where they can walk away from that deal after about a year or two so it’ll be interesting to see how that that comes to play as far as the Andy Dalton to Chicago. This might be a little hot taiki here but you sell all your David Montgomery shares that you’ve got now we’ve seen what what an Andy Dalton QB team does to the running back that that’s there. You know, we’ve to two different status points with Joe Mixon two years ago and Zeke this year, just not not a fan of that one and David Montgomery‘s a running back that has to live in volume. I don’t know that Andy Dalton is going to be able to sustain those drives long enough to keep Montgomery’s wheels turning to the point where he’s going to get 300 carries this year so

Stephie 32:17
I also don’t be surprised if out Allen Robinson does not play on the bears in the fall to be honest you’ll get traded I’m gonna be honest i the second I saw that you know there’s no way this guy is not playing there he Why would he ever want to play there for you got him Andy Dalton Come on like Give me a break any Dolan is a respectable quarterback. He’s a respectable QB two period. He’s not QB one and no one can fight that fight with me. He’s just not a QB one. That’s it period. Alan Robinson should leave. He should demand to be like to get out of there as fast as possible. Like, that is just ridiculous to me.

Derek 32:55
Yeah, I was really hoping that we’d see him finally get a quarterback that really could utilize his talents because that’s that is you talking about elite talent at wide receiver that just hasn’t had the QB play to back him up and really see what he’s capable of doing. So I was actually hoping that he would end up in the Colts and we’d see both the resurgence of Allen Robinson and Carson Wentz. I thought that would have been been pretty awesome there but was not to be

Alex 33:23
I am also hoping that it could still happen. Could it’s not though I’ll just throw it out there. Oh my Carson Wentz shares are tanking

Derek 33:32
There you go. Although they had to have seen some come up since you since you went to Indianapolis a

Alex 33:39
little bit.

Derek 33:42
Guys, any other thoughts on some of these signings? I know that there’s a bunch of them out there anything else standing out to you?

Stephie 33:48
Corey Davis. I’m a little annoyed but kind of love it. How do you guys feel about Corey Davis Tell me tell me things

Alex 33:59
I’m more concerned about the Ryan Tannahill stock here right so he loses Corey Davis he loses Johnny Smith and Johnny Smith wasn’t exactly you know, the go getter in terms of volume he was in terms of touchdowns. He had a great year last year in terms of receiving touchdowns but to me I you know without looking at Tennessee’s roster right offhand, but you lose a Corey Davis you lose a Johnny Smith that was some weapons that are gone out of that Tennessee passing game now and you know, that just screams Hey, we’re gonna ride Derrick Henry for as long as we possibly can. But in order to still have a successful running game, you need to have a successful passing game to to keep defenses honest. That to me is the bigger story here not the Corey Davis. You know going to the Jets. The Jets are a dumpster fire in and of themselves. They’ve got money and they needed to spend that money so whatever. But the departures from Tennessee the bigger bigger story

Stephie 34:58
Does it hurt Denzel Mims you think? Does it hurt Mims stock?

Derek 35:02
Yes, because I think he’s now wide receiver three on that team. You didn’t just sign Corey Davis to be the the big guy there.

Stephie 35:09
This is me because I think it could have been his year and I think that this I think that Neil, I think there’s no way now.

Derek 35:16
Yeah. Jamison Crowder is going to be the number two on that team going into this one my boy so the the other one too about that is I’m just never a big fan of guy of wide receivers that were taken the first round that decided to have a year for breakout. Yeah, it’s just it’s one of those that I haven’t seen those be sustainable. We’ve seen a couple of flashes from guys that breakout in that year four and then don’t sustain that the following year. So hopefully Corey Davis can break that trend, but I don’t see it happening. I certainly don’t see it happening on the Jets. Who at this point, do they go quarterback? Do they not go quarterback with that second overall pick? I think there’s a lot of things up in the air, and a lot of things they still gotta address.

Stephie 36:02
I’ve been saying it for a while. If I’m in New York Jets. I don’t take a quarterback. I just don’t that there’s so much more to address before you try to bring another young guy in and then kill his career. Please don’t do it again. I’m begging you. You took Sam Darnold he went top three overall, so give him the damn chance without gaisce Okay, let’s just like see if he has anything left in him. I mean, at this point Where’s wrong gonna go? Seriously, who is going to take no one is taking Donald at this point. I thought the 40 Niners who maybe be interested. I think that Shanahan is the only offensive coach, I could actually maybe, you know, resurrect his career, for lack of a better term, but I think that there’s potential and Donald I don’t hate Donald, I think that you saw the end of the season too. You saw those those shimmers of him in college a little bit. I think that if they’re smart, they keep darnos and they build the they build the crap around him like just use use the pecs Do you should do but I don’t know if it’s going to roll that way.

Derek 37:11
So from what I’m what I’m gathering there, you think that it Penei Sewell, the offensive lineman out of Oregon to the Jets with that second pick.

Stephie 37:20
It’s good to go I hate this draft this one so unpredictable. I also like Slater more than I like penny. So I hope that it wasn’t he I think that sleater deserves to go higher than Penny asleep. Again, a whole nother podcast you know, but I think that they you know they have things to it you have to see how the rest of free agency goes and see what they still have left. If they can address some things. There’s still some really hot free agents left. I know it’s exciting. We’re all waiting for a holiday and you know, Juju and just don’t forget, there’s a lot of very good players still left. And we’ll see I think I have to see what the Jets do a little bit more before I make a point.

Alex 38:05
One more sneaky, kind of maybe under the radar player but has definitely proven to be a valuable asset for a lot of people fantasy wise. is Emmanuel Sanders joining buffalo that is an interesting one because buffalo was good last year right and it certainly wasn’t you know, for their passing game was fine. You know, Josh Allen was great last year and he had the weapons that he needed. If anything, I kind of felt like maybe they needed to address runningback situation a little bit better, but that is adding another weapon to Josh Allen and I think you know based on everything. Will Sanders is Beasley coming back. We know a Beasley’s coming back Derek

Stephie 38:52
is I’m just not I don’t love so with injury stuff and that’s I mean, I didn’t even mention this is kind of how I got my role into everything is the injury stuff. The thing I don’t like about Beasley’s surgery and and Beasley’s injuries he’s older. The older you get, the less likely to come back and be productive. So I don’t love Beasley coming back, I think a Beasley’s the way that he can contribute is not hot at all right? This is like the least sexy thing ever. I think that you know he and it’s very heroic that he played well. He had a fractured bone and whatever, but it’s not as heroic as you think because he should have addressed it. He’s older he should have taken care of it right away. So I love that for him that he loves the team at much but I think he’s maybe was doing himself an injustice a little bit. Um, I think Zack Moscow don’t sleep on him. I think I think it he is getting very faded and a lot. I’m noticing it because I’m picking up him up in like the 14th round. Are you guys cool We’re easy the chances of this guy his ceiling is very high. So I think that that someone’s being fitted I think though you know I wouldn’t be surprised if the bill signed someone like Chris Carson not gonna be shocked so they can very easily sign a cheap option like that. The bills have been quiet the bills in the Colts have been quiet and they should be a little bit louder but usually you see you know with the Colts This always happens Thursday, I promise you the Colts have signed someone.

Alex 40:31
Yes, and I mean the Colts did did make for a quarterback. So that is a splash in and of itself wasn’t free agency. It was a quarterback trade. But to your point about buffalo I do feel like they, they they need to address as somebody who had you know, both buffalo running backs and could never figure out which one to play, and would always play the wrong one week in and week out. That that needs to be addressed Singletary moss situation, something needs to get figured out there, they were able to get past that because of the superior play of Josh Allen, and what he brought in, in the running game as well as the passing game. So to me, what’s interesting is how will Emmanuel Sanders be used will cold easily come back? Will Sanders kind of fill in as that kind of slot receiver because that’s what he has carved out for himself as, as a pro is kind of filling that role. I don’t think really to the extent that Cole Beasley has but that’s that’s what Sanders does. And so, it’ll be intriguing to see how buffalo integrates him into their offense. And like yeah, Steffie I wouldn’t be surprised if they go out and get a relatively maybe wait for the market to cool down a little bit on some of these players and then go out and get a running back that is kind of maybe left behind or just didn’t work out with salary cap and issues with all the rest of the team so you can get a cheaper option there. Yeah,

Stephie 41:59
you know what’s holding you back is names like golladay and Juju I promise you the second those two guys go ever that’s it. Give me balls to the walls everyone’s gonna god it’s because everyone is trying to sign those two players right now. Don’t be surprised Do you also get a one year deal because Juju is a brat a little bit and I love it for him like I love Juju. I’m I’m on the duty trade out of your shade. You can tick tock whatever you why this is what children do these days. Okay, it’s part of their generation. The kid is young. Like if you want to do a dance, let’s do a dance. We did weird stuff. We had AOL Instant Messenger. Like what were the what were the things the away messages? We still like decoder my spaces. Okay, he does Tick Tock Who cares? He’s still the football player. But yeah, I don’t disagree with you at all. Guys. Any

Derek 42:50
other thoughts on any of the other free agent signings over there

Alex 42:53
thinking about what Denver’s gonna do at quarterback next year

Stephie 42:56
Mullins needs to go somewhere Can we just talk about this you

Alex 42:59
No

Stephie 43:01
and I know where to

Alex 43:02
go and stop somebody at nine get get out of here with our guests trying to force these bad quarterbacks on the Denver Broncos we had a couple weeks ago pushing pushing Dalton to the Broncos what what the hell is this about? Derek? What is this?

Stephie 43:17
Why? Why do you hate Andrew?

Alex 43:20
I’d rather have Drew Lock let’s just put it that way and I would rather not have Drew Lock I think if we put a two by four back there I mean we tried the Broncos tried to play a wide receiver and quarterback last year that didn’t exactly go to plan but I think with a few more weeks of preparation they probably could have pulled it off. No this is devolving into a bracket we got it

Stephie 43:39
though in the draft I think this mark my words have been saying since like October it’s gonna be the most trades we see during the draft

Derek 43:45
I could see that

Alex 43:47
like the Knights were definitely leading up to draft day I could see their teams that that could definitely afford to move back and team definitely could afford to move up it will be it will be fun wheeling and dealing a couple of days leading up to and now it’s just fun. I appreciated the conversation. It’s a good time Steffi, thank you so much for coming on. Your Passion is awesome. I love it. I really really love it. Thank you so much for joining us yeah, no

Stephie 44:16

Derek 44:29
Stephie, Why don’t you go ahead and throw out your socials again for the listeners to be able to connect with you.

Stephie 44:34
Yeah, for sure. So as as well as the three L’s the three L’s stand for Tom Brady‘s three losses, two from the Giants one from Nick Foles with my alma mater. And that’s it. Everything else I work for FTN and you can find my stuff on there.
