Derek 00:11
Alrighty, welcome in ladies and gentlemen to another episode of the good old boys fantasy football Podcast. I am Derek and I am joined as always by your co host, Kevin and Alex. We have a great show for you. Tonight we’re going to be talking some New York Giants football with special guests. Steffi smalls joining us tonight as well. Guys, if you haven’t done so please hop over on to wherever you’re listening to this podcast leave us a five star review, please hit that subscribe button, share it with a friend. Let’s go ahead and talk about some new york football giants though. And after a little bit of a disappointing campaign playing in a not so great NFC East. The giants are sitting there with early draft picks hard to get so let’s go ahead and start in the running back room. We got to Saquon Barkley who had a very injury shortened season last year, and I feel like I’ve said that too often about a lot of guys this year this early on into the podcast and these team breakdowns but Saquon Barkley very early departure on the season had the injury only after 19 rushes he had about 34 yards, six receptions, nine targets was well finished finished well behind where you would have drafted him for an ADP. As Stephie knows, she took him in the first round in a couple of spots last year. But guys, what are your thoughts on Saquon Barkley?

Saquon Barkley RB 2021 New York Giants Fantasy Football

Alex 01:44
Alright, so this was a guy that was one on 1102. Like you were going back and forth between CMC or Saquon, which 1am I going to take if you had that first pick? And then if you had the second pick? You said which which one’s gonna fall to me? Am I going to get CMC or am I going to get Saquon, you know that that was where we were at this time last year talking about the draft the upcoming draft and redraft leagues. Was it going to be CMC? Or were you going to go Saquon, and honestly, I don’t think at this time last year, there was a wrong answer. It was do you want CMC or do you want, Saquon, you’ll probably get the production that you want out of either. And then it turns out that you got the production out of neither because of the weird injuries that both of them had to endure. All that being said, a week or a week a season off for sake, one rehabilitating and getting back into things and hopefully good to go Come week one. I think it’ll be interesting to pay attention to his offseason workouts, the otas whatever kind of preseason work they get in this this year, that will be the the thing to see kind of how he looks before you’re in your redraft leagues and you’re deciding, do I want to go back to that? Well, don’t let recency bias This is my PSA. Don’t let recency bias of sake one screwing you over last year, influence your pick because I still think that he is one of the best running backs in this league. He gets the usage he will be an impact player for that giants offense and will in turn them be an impact player for your fantasy football roster. So I am saying take him with whatever pic you got if he’s coming to you, unless you’ve got a one on one. And you’re weighing other options, but it’s available smash the draft button

Stephie 03:39
ready for my spiel ready. Okay, so, Barkley, think Adrian Pearson. So that’s all I’m gonna say for right now and then I will continue we’ll come back to Adrian Pearson. sequent Barkley did a six week prehab they do not do this. Normally. This is a new thing in athletes with ACL surgeries, Saquon Berkeley’s smcl healed itself entirely before his surgery so they did not touch it it under the night. His meniscus was barely repaired. Usually Do you have meniscectomy or they don’t touch it and then leader need to do a surgery on it. his ACL surgery could not have gone better. I personally am predicting to be back to baseline, and people like date. So I’ll give you a date July 30. Um, so that Adrian Peterson will go back to your Pearson, Adrian piers, then had surgery in 2012. On his ACL, he then went on to hit every single career high for himself. He was the offensive MVP. I mean, his accolades stacked on top of each other. This will be sequence career. Hi. I promise I literally and if I’m wrong, that’s fine. I’ll donate some money to charity. I don’t know what but I think that this is going to be really a great Rate year for Saquon sequences best with a wide receiver one. His best season was with OBJ OBJ. His left is gone fine. They’re going to bring in a wide receiver one size. JOHN. John Ross is not a wide receiver one that’s not made to be he’s not made to be a wide receiver. One he’s not brought into view by receiver one. The drains will address that in the draft. It’s obvious need. So sink one. There’s no reason to feed Saquon if you’re feeding. So looking at Saquon and CMC sequence injuries, very straightforward, right. Here’s the diagnosis. Here’s the surgery. Here’s the rehab and here’s the return at CMC. Do we even exactly know what’s like totally wrong with him? I mean, like coming from a medical standpoint, I hate that. I hate players like Julio Jones Golladay mix in CMC, because why is it not straightforward? Because medicine is straightforward. Tell me what the diagnosis is. And then we know what the plan of action is what the what the day of return is? Saquon has that period. So if you’re even thinking for one second to take one of those players overseas what I think it’s foolish,

Derek 06:09
I do like me some Adrian Peterson guy out of Oklahoma, so that’s enough said

Stephie 06:16
like seriously prime Adrian Peterson is so oh my god 2012 2013 watch the film and Adrian Pearson. You know, get players like that. It’s beautiful. And the guys still in the league. It’s so easy, so happy.

Derek 06:33
To give you an idea of how much of a Adrian Peterson truths are, there’s a there’s a buzzword for you. I am in our home league. I took Adrian Peterson in the third round of his rookie year coming out because it was supposed to be a keeper league. And he was playing behind a guy named Chester Taylor, who was a coming off of a running back one type of year the year before there’s no reason that Adrian Peterson should have been taken that high and well, I still took him that high because I believe the talent there. So I I know exactly what you’re talking about when you when you give me that reference point of an Adrian Peterson comeback type of season. And it is certainly possible. We’ve seen it all day prove that before sake one very well could do it. He is a you know, an elite athlete and an elite at the position. I the question mark that I have for say Kwan there is are the Giants going to be able to shore up that offensive line enough to give him a runway and get let him do what he does exceptionally well?

Stephie 07:41
Yes. So here’s the thing. So first look at the fact that Saquon Barkley needs he needs two things that doesn’t have to do with the O line. Okay, so he needs an R p two, which they got they overpaid Booker, which I don’t really give a shit. I mean, a giants can be giants fans can be as mad as they want. The importance of having an RB two I find more important than having a wide receiver one. I mean for longevity, you need to take the pressure off him stopping the use and abuse giants. You need to have someone that can take some of those targets off of him. He can’t do everything period, then you look at having a wide receiver one, that’s what they need. daraz is not that so they need to address that in the draft. I think the old line can get there. It’s a young old line. I mean, we’re talking to the youngest in the entire league. They have met her who is not being utilized correctly. I swear on on my grandmother’s grave if if Kim Fleming comes back, I will be you know what I will be like a Bears fan. I don’t know what I’ll be. I will not be a Giants fan. If that man comes back, but I think that they have the ability to get there gates. A lot of people forget. Gates never played that position before he was used to being a guard. So give him the offseason. Give players like Andrew Thomas the offseason, give Matt Kurt the offseason give Shayla view the offseason. I mean, five out of seven of their entire life. Were rookies essentially. I mean, if you want to include Nick gates, because of the fact he’s never played the position, I think they’re in the right place. They just need to be smart. And like I was saying earlier, I mean, I won’t be mad if they take if they take a tackle in the first round. Drag nation will go crazy, and I don’t care. I think it’s a good idea. I think that the wide receiver like class is so deep this year. You’re gonna see I promise you second round by receivers that are way better than first round. Because it’s the class stuff is so deep. I mean, there’s at least 20 wide receivers on film that I think that could be stars in this league.

Kevin 09:51
as talented as Saquon is that giants offensive line is wretched. Absolutely wretched. For him to have an Adrian Peterson type season coming back from a major knee injury, he needs an offensive line that can block for him, which isn’t going to happen. I will be surprised if he gets over 3.5 per carry this season and it’s not because of his ability guys, this this is simply because of the surrounding cast of characters. Are you worried about Daniel Jones beating you? Nobody’s worried about Daniel Jones beating them. You’re not worried about any of the receivers beating you slay can? Sure. Evan Ingram might for three games out of the season until he gets hurt and then it gets knocked out again. So Barclays Berkeley’s usages and PPR leagues standard leagues I’m not touching him at all in PPR leagues, Barkley has a lot of value because I do think he will be used in the short passing game a ton, that would not be surprised to see him with 75 receptions this year to get that fantasy worth. The problem is the giants are going to be trailing so often this season that his usage in the redzone isn’t going to be there and when it comes down to the fourth quarter and they’re trying to drive the ball down the field he’s gonna see a fraction of the volume that he truly should top 10 back yes absolutely Saquon is a top 10 back I don’t even know these top five back because of the cast of characters around him and again, it’s not his ability he has his top three ability

Derek 11:24
let’s go ahead and and circle back around here I just kind of want to get everybody’s thought on finish for for Mr. sake one Barkley as far as where you think he’s gonna finish RB on this coming season. 2021. So, who you Alex, we’ll just kind of go on my clockwise here. Alex, who you got with where you got to take one finishing the answer thought on your ceiling.

Alex 11:49
Know, I know. But the fan feels nice on the face. Um, I’m gonna go four.

Derek 11:58
I know you that you’re high on on sake. One where you got him finishing?

Stephie 12:01
I agree. RB 4 is a easy take for me.

Derek 12:05
Kevin, what about you?

Kevin 12:06
Six,

Derek 12:07
six. Okay, so 446 I think? I don’t know. I’m probably gonna put him. I’m gonna say probably about five. Right, right in there split the difference between y’all. I think that’s probably a pretty good shot for him to finish that. Let’s go ahead and move over to Wayne Gallman, who was kind of the relief back of Mr. Saquon Barkley. Last year, he finished running back 32 last year, 147 rushes 682 yards, six rushing touchdowns, 21 receptions. 27 targets an additional 114 through the air. Guys, your thoughts on Wayne Gallman.

Wayne Gallman RB 2021 New York Giants Fantasy Football

Kevin 12:48
Coleman is just another body right? Like he served well, like he was he’s not a terrible backup running back. But he has a backup running back. He does not serve any sort of, you know, starting prowess for the length of the season, we saw that he had a couple flashes in a pan, which is great. But overall, you can replace Wayne gallman with anybody whether it’s a devonte. Booker, whether it’s running back BC and D down the line, he’s in a long line of backup running backs. So fantasy relevant sure you want him as a handcuff forsake one. I mean, why wouldn’t you if you’re going to take say Kwan and you think he’s going to be one of these elite backs, then absolutely grab him as a handcuff late, no one else is going to be looking at him unless you’re a sacred order. Owner, and that’s perfectly fine. But realistically, he’s going to fall back into three, four touchdowns, he might have 350 yards rushing tack on another 125 or so receiving. And that’s going to be kind of what you kind of want, you gotta win golden. So that puts him in what Rb 50 territory. So the only purpose for me that he’s going to serve as a backup.

Alex 13:56
Yeah, I’ll cosign on that I don’t see gallman as being anything other than a handcuff backup II. To your point, Kevin, he serves a role, but that role isn’t going to be really relevant. If the Giants do what I think the giants are going to do, and that is run the wheels off of Saquon Barkley, then you know, Goldman’s going to be in their first spell, and now you throw in devonte. Booker, I just only see Booker eating into Goldman’s carries, not the other not Booker or gallman eating into sake, it shouldn’t say just carries but usage, and Booker is going to eat into Golden’s usage. And neither of those two is going to eat into Saquonts usage. So handcuff is all I see gallman ads.

Stephie 14:36
I think it’s very unlikely that going it’s on the team. I think there’s a reason they they have to do something with this contract. And they have yet to do that. And they’re prioritizing people like zeidler Tomlinson. I mean, Leo Williams, they’re addressing those things. They should have addressed a government by now. Government is worth keeping. He’s a very good RB two, is he an RB one? Absolutely not. But he’s someone that in fantasy you stash you grab him What the 15th 16th round for the days that your RV won’t get sick or is not on the field and and he picks up some some yards and some points for you. But no, he’s not an RV one ever, we will never be an RV one.

Derek 15:15
No, I I can definitely subscribe to that thought that he is a handcuff type of guy. Although if you don’t think he’s gonna be on the Giants next year, where do you see him going?

Stephie 15:26
Ah, it’s a good question. I think that I mean, there’s a lot of teams with RV needs. I think that Miami could easily pick them pick him up for depth. I think that, you know, again, it’s still too early, early with like free agency with the Giants not addressing his contract. I don’t wait to speak on things and then you know, I see something and it comes back and old takes expose just comes after my ass so I won’t speak on it. But I think it’s very unlikely that this guy plays on the New York Giants and it sucks I i’ve advocate for him. I think that Goldman’s a great RB two, I think that the Giants have wasted his career. To be honest, I think that he definitely had potential to be an RB one and he will not be that now he can get the bag somewhere else. So he’s not going to get paid well from the Giants now. If you’re like I kind of thought they’d keep him and then they did that shit. And I’m like, there’s no way they’re getting rid of this guy. Because Goldman’s an idiot. It’s like the GM sucks.

Alex 16:21
That is a giant obstacle that the Giants need to overcome. That obstacle right there is the biggest one.

Derek 16:32
devonte Booker did sign there. Do you guys have any any thoughts about devonte Booker for this coming season,

Stephie 16:39
he’s there. So that sequence doesn’t have to take every single target That’s it, period. Do not touch him in fantasies disgusting and makes his vile. Like it literally makes me sick that they’re paying this man as much as they are. But you know what? It’s a solid RB two and that’s fine, too. I can argue it’s on RB. He’s an RB two period. And the RB two in the giant standpoint is like he takes five targets away from sake one a year, like right, like that’s all need for longevity. All I need is for SEO not to be the 100% target shared guy. I need him to not get every target. So he’s not getting hit. So he’s not getting views. So we can chill on the fucking ACL. And everything’s fine. So yeah,

Alex 17:21
so that’s what you’re saying. And I think we’re all kind of on board with this that whoever’s not named Saquon Barkley, that’s a running back he are giants is only going to be used as a handcuff option as somebody that will be inserted into the starting lineup. As sake one either either misses a game or Mrs. God forbid, misses more time, and has some struggles coming back from his injury or get hurt again. But that’s I mean, that’s kind of where we’re at with this giants team is that it is the sake one show. And anybody else that is in that running back room at least is a non starter in more ways than one. But definitely handcuff possibility. I honestly I just saw, it’s just I just am seeing this Booker news. I missed that one. So you know, pardon me for being a little ill prepared for that. But just to it is crazy how much they’re paying to vontae bokor. Based on what we’ve seen out of devonte poker in the past we he was he was terrible in Denver, he was non option in Denver when there was plenty of option for him to be and then he was okay, I guess last year as a backup role in Vegas so that this is just a weird signing for me. And I don’t I again, Barkley show anybody else handcuff?

Derek 18:50
Alrighty, well, let’s go ahead and move on over to some wide receivers and I think we can all agree that they’ve got a need here at wide receiver and let’s go ahead and start with Sterling Shepherd Sterling Shepard last year with the 46 wide receiver for fantasy 66 receptions, 90 targets 656 yards, three touchdowns. Guys your thoughts on Sterling Shepard

Sterling Shepard WR 2021 New York Giants Fantasy Football

Kevin 19:18
Sterling Shepherd is not a bad receiver guys, but these damn concussions are just wrecking this dude. He comes he balls out for like two games and then he gets dinged up and then all of a sudden his head hurts. I’m recovering from these concussions almost. It just affects him differently. He has longer term effects. We see him in a game where a hit doesn’t look that serious. Then he creeps up in protocol and then the next thing you know he’s out a couple weeks and you’re going well, what the hell I saw the play guy hit on it didn’t seem that big of a deal. But while he’s on the field, he can be productive. He’s good at moving the chains that intermediate type route. He’s good on the sidelines which helps Daniel Jones at times, but he’s also small enough that you can play him in the slot, right? So he has a little bit of flexibility, he has good hands about him his route running is slightly above average. It’s not great, but it is more than serviceable. His biggest issue is availability. And the fact is quarterback struggles finding him on the field, which is the downfall of all the Giants past catchers at this point is, you just can’t trust Daniel Jones. Fair, I

Alex 20:33
think what the Giants obviously Derek, you’re right, they need to address they need to address this position. And I’m not sure if they go and try and get a you know, I’m looking at something here and it says Golladay, that the three options that they’re saying is Golladay, Fuller, or Juju. And while I think Golladay would be a great option for them, I’m not sure that the other two would be that great, because Fuller, you’re only going to get four or five games before he either gets suspended or hurt. And Juju is well, Juju as we’ve already talked about earlier in the episode, so but I think it would be fun to see what the Giants do for you. If they can land somebody or if they go and address this in the draft. As for Sterling Shepard, I have never been a big fan of him sometimes to my detriment because he has been good at times. But again, availability is tough. In fantasy purposes, a guy that you can’t count on to be in the lineup week in and week out or you have to pay way too much attention to whether he’s going to play and then hope that you can string some games together with him is not a very fun game to play as a fantasy football owner. So I’m out on Sterling Shepherd, even even if the Giants don’t address things and he ends up being their their wide receiver one come week one.

Stephie 21:55
He’s a wide receiver too. They get street like a wide receiver one and that’s it. If they need a wide receiver one certainly scheppers not a wide receiver one and he needs to stop being treated like one if the giants that that’s our trend is they’re using views. And they love to do that. And this is what happened with Saquon st Madison with Sterling seeming to happen to see in this, the more you use players, when they’re not supposed to be used, then they get hurt. But playing 10 games and missing six is not unreliable as a wide receiver too. It means you’re drafting him way too high.

Derek 22:29
Sterling Shepard was a guy I was incredibly high on when he was coming out of college. Right? You’re talking about another Oklahoma guy, you give me a chance to talk about Oklahoma guys. I’m gonna do it. I very much enjoy those guys. But he’s a guy that hasn’t really lived up to what I thought he was going to be in the NFL. And Oklahoma he was a very dominant player in the wide receiver position and really thought that that would carry over he has really some some good hand some good route running ability. And while those do carry over a little bit, he’s hasn’t been that fantasy stud that I thought I would would have been getting year in year out when I was drafted him very early sometimes. But he’s a guy that I think very much fits what the Giants need him to do. He has the ability to be kind of that possession guy. And that’s something that I think that Daniel Jones will need to rely on a little bit here over this season. Looking forward especially from the standpoint that right now there. There’s kind of that big question mark out there as far as who’s going to be the wide receiver one and what that’s going to look like I I do think that they probably do try to either address that through free agency or in the draft, but it’ll be interesting to see how that remains going forward. So let’s go ahead and we’ll move on over to Darius Slayton Darius Slayton finished the season 55th wide receiver last year 50 receptions at 96 targets 751 yards with three touchdowns. Your thoughts on Darius Slayton

Darius Slayton WR 2021 New York Giants Fantasy Football

Stephie 24:03
I so 52.1% completion rate is all I have to say he lost 11 points for the Giants the entire season and I am over variously and I think that John Ross will easily take over that role. That’s it.

Kevin 24:17
I think last year I was but I think we all right, we’re hoping for a little bit more out of Darius Slayton the way he finished 2019 was very positive and trying to thrust him into that, you know, quote unquote wide receiver one roll for the for the giants and just didn’t quite work out for him. Part of it. He had, you know, a little bit inconsistent his route running part of it was Daniel Jones didn’t connect very well on some of the deep balls and at the beginning of the season, it seemed like that’s what they were constantly trying to do with their Slayton was, everything was deep. They wanted the big play all the time. That caused a bit of, you know, some dysfunction within the offense, if you will. The kid is still Young I think he has room to develop. He’s not a true wide receiver one. So I think going back to kind of same thing with Sterling Shepherd use him in the right way. Now, john Ross is very much the same players slate and so it’s quite possible that john Ross comes in and just overtakes it. He’s a guy who can play on the outside, he has a ton of speed, he can get behind defenses and Ross was never really used appropriately in Cincinnati. So it will be interesting to kind of see how at least for now, the three receivers are used on the field to keep the defense back a little bit and give se Kwan a little bit of room. So I think Dario Slayton is probably going to finish in that wide receiver 48 to 50 range again, I think, I think that’s probably about right. You might see as receptions tick up a little bit and see as touchdowns drop as they don’t give up the big place. So I’m not expecting anything big out of Dario Slayton, he’s a guy that you can get late on, you know, late in the draft 12th 13th, round most likely, and be able to kind of pick him up, stash them away in case he blows up. And if not, he’s an easy cut to pick up a player that, you know, you’re going to be able to add for instant gratification to your roster.

Alex 26:19
And I think, you know, looking at this giants team from last year, obviously, the wrench that was thrown into their offense with the loss of sake won so early. It might be a touch unfair to just take anything away from what happened this last year and apply it to this year because I Saquon was going to be such a huge part of that offense, and the team really didn’t respond after he got injured as far as Slayton. I mean, I’m still you know, we’ve talked in the past about these, you know, you want a piece of that of certain team, if you want a piece of, you know, the Cowboys offense, you’re gonna want a little piece of that offense. I think as more as I look into the giants and with what they’ve got in terms of their options. What I what I don’t want is a piece of the Giants passing game right now. Just because of what say Kwan or what this team is and their identity on offense and what they need to do so as far as you know, Slayton at the point the draft where it is slynt oils, excuse me, I’m going to look elsewhere.

Derek 27:26
Yeah, that’s kind of where I’m at as well. I don’t know that I necessarily dairy Slayton was a guy that it was funny because last year when you looked at the giants, wide receivers, right, you you had Golden Tate you had Sterling Shep you had dairy Slayton and those were all guys that were taken very similar as far as an ATP was was concerned. So it was very interesting to see how it nobody really kind of stepped up to that plate they all kind of finished roughly kind of around where everybody else did. So it was it was one to say that I think it was our it’s very fair to say I think that we’re all a little disappointed in how these guys turned out from a fantasy standpoint. But I do think that they’re going to do something I little interested there as far as them signing, you know john Ross there because of the fact that you know, dairy Slayton is a burner john Ross is a burner so it’s it’s interesting that they’re gonna sign a guide to almost do the same thing there. And so it’ll be interesting to see how that kind of plays out. Very interested, though, to see who’s going to be that number one wide receiver for that team going into the season, there’s a lot still in the air. And if if they get a guy that that can move on the other side on that other outside with it being Slayton or being Rosser, whoever is that number two, guy in the formation, it’ll be interesting to see how that really plays out and how this thing will work and move going forward. But

Stephie 28:55
everything on the line really, it’s like either or they’re screwed. I mean, there’s like that’s it. It’s, you know, you fix the line. I think there’s potential you don’t fix it online, and they’re done. They’re done. They’re gonna finish 32nd you know, you can’t get much lower than 31st Okay, and the Jets are going off. So now what I mean that’s right at this point, so it could trust me I’m well aware of it. I know the situation the giants are in but you should never be. I mean, take Shepherd in like, again, this 12th 11th round weenie if you’ve already like secured the bag and things look good 16th 17th throne, hell yeah. Shepherd still around, take him. He’s a great, he’s a great stash. Because if things turn up, then that’s an awesome value. But if things don’t turn off, he’s a waste. So I think that that’s where you have to you look at the giants, skilled players right now is if things go well tell ya if they go bad, you’re done. I mean, they mean nothing to you. And it’s more likely they go bad than they go good. You have to Decide Do you trust them? Or do you not trust them?

Derek 30:02
You’re probably on to something there. I like it. Let’s, let’s go ahead and move on over to the tight ends. And Evan Engram, who finished Titan 16 last year 63 receptions, 109 targets 654 yards and one touchdown. We’ll go ahead and get starts on Evan Engram. To be

Evan Engram TE 2021 New York Giants Fantasy Football

Kevin 30:23
fair, he had two touchdowns one was just rushing.

Alex 30:28
Yeah, fair enough.

Kevin 30:29
I like everything. I wanted him to be so damn good. Do

Alex 30:33
not short them in.

Kevin 30:34
Well, I mean, hey, we’re gonna call it out. Oh, you know?

30:38
All right.

Kevin 30:41
I want him to be so damn good. I really do. And he has a lot of the tools. He just gets dinged up a little too much. Um, but when he’s on the field, he’s targeted last season, he was able to play all 16 games. So that’s a step in the right direction, right the first time in his career that he’s been able to do all that. Okay, so check my my biggest thing is going back to what we were just talking about, it goes back to the offensive line. If you have to keep Ingram in and try and have him chip block, then he’s not out running routes and doing what you really need him to do. He’s not a, you know, blow your doors off. Rush defense, or, excuse me run blocker. He is a guy who you put out in routes, you want him to get eight to 13 yards at a clip, right and just help move the chains and work them down the field. If the offensive line is getting blown up, and he’s not able to get any depth on his routes, then he’s stuck with these three, four or five yard completions. And yeah, they add up by the end of the season. But from week to week, for a lot of fantasy purposes, it doesn’t quite do it. All that being said, I expect his touchdown numbers to go up. I expect Evan Ingram to be back inside the tight end one category and probably in the probably top 10. I don’t I’m a little afraid to go much higher than that just because of the status of the Giants offense as a whole. But he’s still young, he has a ton of athletic ability. And given the proper situation, I think he’s a guy that you can get later in that kind of that almost fourth tier of running back or excuse me, tight ends, that gets drafted and get some value out of them this year. I think a lot of players fantasy players have been kind of butthurt by him in the past. And this might be the year that you get enough value on them that you can grab them a little bit later, maybe again, in you know the 10th or 11th round as a later tight end and be able to add that to a quality roster that you’ve built in the top half of the draft and be pretty happy with it at the end of the day.

Stephie 32:40
That’s fair. I think I have an Ingram, you know, and I was someone that rooted for him all season. And it was very hard for me to do that. And then you see that drop in the Eagles game and it’s like, dude, you got to pull it together. I don’t know what’s happening. Keep your feet in the freaking ground like you’re better than this. And I think that’s what’s frustrating with Evan and grow. He’s better than that. There’s no reason for him to be playing like this. So I think that editing room, you know, he’ll go to another team. I think for Evan Ingram sake, get rid of him, because he send him somewhere else and he’ll be a stud. I mark my words, he goes somewhere else somewhere with lower stress. And we’re like Arizona, the Ravens, you know, you can send him to a team and he doesn’t need to worry that he’s the main guy. I mean, you can’t lose 35 points for a team in one season. That’s a damn problem. I’m sorry. That’s ridiculous. That’s the difference between multiple wins. That’s an issue. I mean, and you know, what sucks is and I know we’ll get into it and I’m not going to defend him to his death is like Evan Ingram’s errors also got reflected on it. You know, the rebounds onto Daniel Jones just kind of crap because watching film and being a film heavy is like Evan Ingram could not have gotten more perfect balls this season. I mean, out of every single target a lot of them were on Danny but every Ingram’s balls were on Evan Ingram, you drop those balls that was your downfall. So I think that Evan Ingram his best potential is to get off this team i think that you know loosening up the target share he should not have been the most targeted player you know it Jason Garrett has amnesia thinking he’s it’s within I don’t know what’s going on there you know it’s not he shouldn’t be running the scheme that he’s doing and it just doesn’t work on this team you’re not in Dallas bro like period it’s not Dallas is the New York Giants like yes NFC ease but it’s not the same shit so he’s gotta if things have to change they need a wide receiver one Ingram’s another one you know shepherd and sleep in and Ingram they all play better with a wide receiver one and the one thing that this team has lacked since OBJ is a wide receiver. We have not had one. So you bring a wide receiver one. Watch your eardrum stocks go up Hell yeah. Because he decreased the targets and I promise That that catch percentage goes up and then they forget about it. He’ll be the

Alex 35:03
athletic Evan Ingram that we all love. He was he was what four or five touchdowns away from being a quality Titan prospect for you on your fantasy like that and tied in one territory, which we know that the bar, you know, as we’ve talked on this show several times and I will keep reiterating it is the tears of tight ends, like Kevin Ingram could very easily get into that, that second tier of tight end if he can find the end zone a little bit more. And and that’s it just makes that second tier a little more crowded. But and I think that’s where we all think that Evan Ingram has the potential to beat now he’s not he’s not a toasties not a Kindle. And if he is, something’s going crazy in New York there but I can very easily could see him getting into that, that second tier of Titan towards the bottom half of it in my opinion, and being a titan Titan one at the bottom end of it, and which which isn’t saying much but it can still be a valuable part if he can find the end zone a few more times. And I don’t know if that’s going to happen with sake one coming back like that. That’s the thing you know, if you can, if you get down into the red zone, what are you going to see, you know, you’re going to see a healthy dose of Saquon with this offense. And you know, maybe the tight end roll picks up but again, I didn’t hear the part where you guys were talking about the O line needing to improve and Kevin, your point about if if he has to be in there to chip or if he has to be in there to pass pro and doesn’t doesn’t get the depth on the routes. It’s going to be a long season for Evan Ingram fantasy owner

Derek 36:44
I would agree with you from an athletic profile like he is outstanding with at the tight end very big very athletic is one of the few guys that can be a difference maker at the tight end position for you and can get out there and receive very, very well. But yeah, I’m kind of curious there. Steffi, you were talking about the fact that a wide receiver one does a lot of curing of the Giants ailments there. And so my question to you is, if you could pick a wide receiver to put on this team, who are you picking?

Stephie 37:19
I hate this question. I won’t get too many good options. I don’t like to march Easter this scheme. I don’t. God dice nation’s gonna hate me. So I’m going to keep my mouth shut a little bit. I think it’s Avante Smith’s football IQ is phenomenal. My thing is with the line with his with with the secondary with you know, there’s things to address with the giants. And I think it’s very easy as fans to be like, I want the flashiest name, I want to be like the Dallas Cowboys and pick the hottest name that I see once it hits the draft board. But you have to be realistic. And I think that there are options, you know, later on. If Kyle Pitts falls, you pick Kyle Pitts, right, because if that’s the only generational talent I seen in this entire draft, I think that that is a different player. But if I’m going to pick one, you know, Shawn Beekman between Smith. I mean, there’s good options. I just I don’t think that Chase is falling. I don’t think one was falling if he does was a great runner would fit that that scheme. But how can you fit a scheme? If you know the big problem is that the Giants is Jason Garrett. That’s the issue. You know it what do you do with an offense is still run by Jason Garrett. If Jason Garrett continued his playbook that’s like inch big and then expanded then Creek to whatever wide receiver we can get. I just think I’m my biggest worries. Jason Garrett in this so if I’m going to pick one I’m picking devante Smith, I think about the Smith would be a beautiful match. I don’t care what his beam is. Because it doesn’t matter if you can totally body like 300 pound men. He’s like, can you get out of the way he gets separation. He’s one of the watching film the past couple years. He is one of the smartest football players I’ve ever seen. He’s intuitive. He can see things before it happens he gets out of the way he makes the route like he can move completely out of the way he just gets it and more than most players do. So I’ll go to vontae Smith I don’t know that that’s gonna happen but we’ll see this

Alex 39:32
so so Stephie, would you say though that they you think that the Giants will address receiver in the draft and not try and sign one of these free agents?

Stephie 39:41
Who so I do do the guardian. You know if we could Golladay I will be it that will be my worst take of it will go down in history is what we’re seeing ever. I really just don’t see that happening. I don’t know how the giants are going to come up with the money that Golladay wants as a He’s asking for a why, you know, turns out 18 million for the lions fine. You guys can see, it’s because he doesn’t want to play there. That’s okay. But you think he’s gonna really take 15 million on a good team? The giants are not a good team. Right? Like, let’s be serious, the Giants suck. This is not a great team. So why would he ever take a $15 million a year contract on the New York Giants? That makes no sense to me? I mean, is he looking at the lions and the Giants? Yes, the giants are definitely better than lions that I think at least the four of us can agree on maybe kind of sort of, in some aspects, they have the defense that I think can prop them over the lions in my perspective, and I especially with the recent signings but i think that you know why would go they want to come play that’s what people don’t get people like Golladay and Juju, they don’t want to play for the beer giants. Guys, this is going in Jeju and like speaking seriously, so I think do they What else is there after that Curtis? Daniel is a very Yeah, it’s very possible. I don’t believe that Curtis Samuel is a wide receiver you sign curse annual you still need a wide receiver in the draft

Alex 41:16
would you take well?

Stephie 41:18
Yeah, they I mean, they need to pick a wide receiver just you know what I’m worried looking at last year and then looking at this, this wide receiver classes. I think I’m telling you guys, the best wide receivers might come from the second round. It wouldn’t be shocking to me that we get a bunch of really good players in that second round.

Kevin 41:37
I can subscribe to that. Rashard Bateman’s a beast, like, there is not enough hype about this kid. Because he played at a lesser caliber school that wasn’t named LSU or Alabama

Alex 41:51
northern school.

Stephie 41:57
Demons the man and you know who else and I’ve been on it. The people that follow me know Jalen tardy is gonna tear this this damn league up, I promise. No, no, no, no, it’s okay. You shouldn’t there’s no reason no Emmys, like from North Texas. But if it’s not Alabama, Ole Miss, you know, Ohio, this is all everyone gets so stuck on these other players.

Kevin 42:25
Yeah, I do think that the one free agent receiver, that would go to New York is Dude, I think that fits in a lot of ways. Because I can see Juju using that as a marketing technique just as much as anything else. Juju seems very much like he wants to continue to push his name out there in other ways besides football, and what better markets, then the main team in New York, not your little sister’s jets, but you know, the big blue. And if you can find a way to utilize Juju, specifically in the slot, I think he can still be very productive. It will have to do things.

Stephie 43:09
Who is the coach that can actually handle that attitude? If you could name one coach in that entire in the entire league? Who do you think could actually fix that problem? It’s true judge golden Tate got his mouth shut real quick. And I think that I think that Joe judge would be great for Juju. And I think that that’s how you unlock your potential and in gestation hates me for it. I’m all in on Juju come in New York. Not the sister though. My

Alex 43:40
dang it. Kevin, you weren’t here when we were talking about it. But I did want to get your thoughts. I would be remiss if I didn’t get your thoughts on the Fitzpatrick to Washington news. did not come to Denver. Like you thought

Kevin 43:54
I was bummed out. I like the fit for him in Washington. I think they got some pieces around there. Right. I mean, you have Gibson coming off a really good rookie season. You have you know, Jerry Maclaurin, who continues to be extremely serviceable. And now you have a guy who’s willing to gamble deep even more and letting f1 use that speed to get deep like I like that. I’ll be interested to see how they continue to utilize Logan Thomas or if they’re going to look at tight end and other ways. And with camp cam Smith justice cam Smith Jr. Sorry, their third year wide receiver now he had a really good tail end of his rookie year. Last year. He was kind of that deep sleeper that some people were kind of pointing at didn’t end up doing really a whole heck of a lot. But you know, a change in quarterback Fitzpatrick’s best year. Historically through his career, his best year on the team is the first year. So if you’re going to expect big things out of the Washington football team, this is the year to do it offensively. Because for whatever reason where a lot of quarterbacks need a year to understand the offense and then get going Ryan Fitzpatrick and his Harvard degree manages to just digest playbooks and all the different you know, languages, if you will of all these playbooks in the NFL and he thrives you’re one so I think Terry Maclaurin has a huge play. I think Logan Thomas is a sneaky play for good Titan one by the end of the season, and it’ll spell good things for Antonio Gibson and you’ll see his his career continue to blossom as we started to see last year. Oh guys, let’s

Daniel Jones QB 2021 New York Giants Fantasy Football

Derek 45:32
go ahead and finish off the giants and they’ve got a quarterback there named Daniel Jones. 24th quarterback last year 280 completions 448 target attempts 2943 yards through the air 11 passing touchdown. 10 interceptions, guys, your thoughts on Daniel Jones.

Alex 45:55
Real quick before we dive into Daniel Jones on his pro football reference page. His nickname in parentheses is Danny dimes I would like this to be like a Wikipedia page where I could go in there and edit that because Danny dimes doesn’t throw 10 picks to 11 touchdowns in a season

Kevin 46:15
you know those numbers would have been MVP worthy 20 years ago like

Stephie 46:20
when did he stop throwing picks them cuz y’all want to be stuck on that and then don’t realize that it stopped very much so the fumbles over all the shit.

Alex 46:32
But 11 touchdowns to 10 picks.

Derek 46:34
Well, she has a point there because we know 17 only one

Stephie 46:40
no line no tight at a titan that can’t can’t catch the ball. Last 35 points then you go to is the second top targeted player is slated 11 points last. Okay. Then you go to Jason Garrett scheme you have no wide receiver. Tell me how you tell me how you’re successful and tell me how everyone is. So you want to be high on on to you want to still give Darnell the chance this kid didn’t have a full rookie season till halfway through this season. Everyone acts like his first his first couple games was a rookie year he hit 16 games this season. So I just don’t you know like I’m not going to participate totally in this because I think with Danny slender is a little ridiculous because there’s nothing to base it off of. He’s had there he has nothing to work off of. And if you look at the film, his best games are the last two. And he stopped. He watched that he’s gonna flourish next year and I’m gonna stand by it

Kevin 47:38
flourish like top 15 flourish like top 10 What do you think?

Stephie 47:43
I think top 15 100%

Kevin 47:45
I think it’s possible because of what he gets you out of his legs. I don’t know that his right arm alone is gonna do it, but I can see his legs doing it.

Stephie 47:51
Yeah, for sure. I think that also like you said someone like john Ross. He the reason why they signed Ross is because Ross can get a deep ball. You know, you know he didn’t have this year some of the kids actually catch a deep ball swinging up the deep balls and drop them he got beautiful balls 11 points gone. Even Ingram 35 between the two of them. That’s pathetic. That’s a That’s pathetic that that guy dropped. You know, that’s the difference between a losing in a winning record. So that’s where I’m at. I mean, to the point where these guys being so abused because the line camp block bait got injured. How many times like guys give me a break? It’s like it’s just you can’t you can’t judge him. I think is there a high chance of Daniel Jones does nothing. Yeah, absolutely. I’m not sitting here acting like this as a franchise quarterback. Do I think there’s a very high possibility? Yes. You want to Why? Because Eli Manning 2007 he won a Super Bowl his worst career year. I mean, this guy sucked in 2007 he was a shitty quarterback. And and Daniel Jones in bodies that you know what Daniel Jones has that Eli Manning doesn’t have his legs. Daniel Jones can run and Eli Manning couldn’t run. So you give him the weapons and the needs and you know what, again, Daniel Jones, everyone Evan Ingram, Daniel Jones, all these guys Shepherd all them. Jason Garrett is the problem. That’s a huge mistake. And if they don’t expand that playbook, it’s done for all of them. Forget it. Dale Jones will go he’ll end up like darnold like trubisky of course but I think that people need to be a little bit easier if you’re going to be easy on to that you have to be easy on Daniel Jones because it’s the same such a situation the same game count same scenario and deal Jones ended up ahead so it you know if that’s all that’s all I will say I won’t be worked up. I’ll let you guys go in lander the crap out of him. me but

Kevin 49:45
I might have missed this who went easy on Tua? Yeah,

Alex 49:50
I’m not going easy on to I if somebody else has it wasn’t on this show.

Stephie 49:54
That’s okay. That’s fine. No, I’m just saying like the general public.

Alex 50:00
That’s fair. That’s fair.

Stephie 50:02
And like and I’m Baker Mayfield, that’s another one right so like you’re an Oklahoma guy

Derek 50:07
gets a pass on this show.

Stephie 50:10
Easy don’t go easy on Baker and tuba and then not go easy on Daniel Jones because he’s in New York giant and we went to Super Bowls and now you’re all butthurt. Like that doesn’t it doesn’t work that way. Eli Manning is not a good. He’s, he’s a good quarterback like a good good quarterback. He’s not a great quarterback, period. Dale Jones has the ability to be better than Eli Manning. And I’ve said that multiple This is not a breaking news. I mean, Eli Manning can’t run the way that did that Daniel Jones skin. So I think that people go, you know, it’s like, we write rookies off way too easy. This is the season. If Daniel Jones messes up this season, he’s done for good. And I will write him off. I’ll be the first one to read them off. Am I reading off now? No, because Joe judge believes in him. And you know what, that’s what they did with Eli Manning. And it gave us two rings. So I’m gonna believe in it.

Kevin 51:04
I think you’ll see some progression at Daniel Jones. I think having an offseason with the same playbook does any quarterback good, right? It’s not easy to come in start the final what was it 1012 games of his rookie season, and you know, kick out Eli, and then come in with a new offensive coordinator learning a new playbook and a you know, pandemic shortened offseason. So I can buy into that. And I can subscribe to that that having time to digest the playbook having time to go through offseason workouts mini camp training camp all these times where you get reps and familiarity with your wide receivers. it’s beneficial to the quarterback so do I think he’s as bad as his 11 and 10? No, the Giants just had a really bad year, like, as good as that. Secondary was for the Giants trying to keep them in so many of those damn games towards the end of the season, just out of sheer pride that they didn’t want to get stomped on. It just wasn’t offensively a good season injuries just completely, you know, tore him up along with some other, you know, NFL teams that had the same issues. But Jones going from 24 to 15. It’s possible though, right? Like if he goes and just has an average, just across the median, right? 15 is average in the NFL. Daniel Jones is probably about average, I don’t think he’s a superstar. I don’t think he’s an all pro but his legs fantasy wise, allow him to get those cheap points, which are so beneficial in the fantasy realm, and it helps move the chains in the actual game as well. So if they’re staying on the field a little bit more, and he’s able to have some sort of rapport with pick a receiver at this point, like find someone who can catch the ball for you, and just target them a little bit more frequently. His completion percentage will go up. So instead of what was it 61% you know, if you can get them up into that 64 65% your yards are going to come you’re going to be in the red zone, more situations, naturally, you’re going to get more of these touchdown, so I think it’s entirely possible to see him even 19 touchdowns, you know, 10 interceptions, again, maybe but in a 16 game season, who the hell cares? Like that’s pretty common as well. So easy. abem No, but he needs to show us something this year. Steph? He’s right. He’s he’s got to show us something. That’s usually how

Stephie 53:36
is this team six and 10? You wanna know, the truth is Daniel Jones is no one else did ask that team sucks. Like, seriously, I mean, besides for the defense and Daniel Jones. That’s it. That’s all the team has that offense is is horrid. Like what I saw last season was pathetic. The fact that they finished sixth and 10th is impressive to me. I mean, if it wasn’t for anger, miscellaneous drops, they they would have won that division. I mean, we’re talking two games and and you’re you’re like looking at a winning record. So I mean, all it takes is just everyone pull it together. And I think a lot of it comes down to the line and people forget that in fantasy a lot. And that’s where I do a lot of my fantasy analysis is look at the old line. You want to know how players gonna play look at the old why because it’s huge football, that it makes a huge difference if the old line you know, Cameron Fleming is a disgrace to this game will hurt it just did not help. So I think Daniel Jones at least you know, is he going to be a Hall of Famer? Probably not and neither is Eli Manning. Because this is the Giants way guys like I told him, I knew we were picking him I called that I called Daniel Jones being the New York Giants quarterback. I knew it was gonna happen. They’re not looking you needed. I mean, you don’t need to be a fantastic Great Hall of Fame quarterback to win Super Bowls, period. That’s it. You need to win games.

Alex 55:01
I will say it helps if you are a fantastic Hall of Fame quarterback to win. I’m kidding. I’m kidding. And

Stephie 55:08
he’s been living in

Alex 55:11
every everything that you’re saying I can totally buy into. I see that he could be, you know, a top 15 quarterback. Me personally, I’m Stanley for Daniel Jones in fantasy this this next year and that is maybe that’s not an indictment on him that might be an indictment on the team around him. And what I think that Saquonts usage is going to be but I’m staying away from Daniel Jones when it comes to looking at my backup quarterback because even if you know i’m i’m going to go somewhere else for my starting quarterback for my QB one. And then for my backup quarterback or my second quarterback in the superflex probably still look elsewhere. Although he could have real good value in Super flex.

Stephie 55:56
He has like a back Who’s your backup? I’m curious. For real? I’m actually

Alex 56:00
I’d actually be I’d be more interested in like Fitzpatrick I have a feeling he’ll be down there just because he’s on a one year deal. I don’t know that I would like cam in that spot. I don’t think I would take cam over just like if it came down to camera Jones I would probably go Jones but

Kevin 56:23
Jameis Winston,

Alex 56:24
I want my power to I don’t know the genus and we talked about this earlier. I don’t know that jamis is going to be QB one down there. You know, like I don’t know that he’s starting. But the potential of the game is yes. Yeah. I guess I would rather have Yeah, I would rather take the potential of a jamis because if you’re in a one QB Li You need one guy for one week right otherwise you’re gonna ride your starter you know so that’s

Stephie 56:50
points I usually do during this point so from last year because there’s only a the only times that he didn’t score 19 points or higher is like when he was hurt like he did not do because he was the only thing that he they scored so I don’t think Daniel Jones is a bad backup. I mean I’m definitely picking him up like in later rounds I think that he’s a solid a solid person to have in your roster because of the upside but don’t if he blows it Don’t be shocked you know? So this is the risk that you have to take with with some of these guys even Winston and I love Winston like holy crap I love losing my whole heart I wish I went to be that giants quarterback like I would be but I’m not I’m not taking Winston without knowing the risks.

Alex 57:35
Right and so that’s why I’m saying that I’m I’m probably looking elsewhere when it comes to my backup quarterback given my options at that point, but you know, backup quarterbacks obviously something that you’re you know, if you’re in a one QB league string a guy for a week, you know, like if you’re in a 12 team League, there’s going to be quarterbacks out there. So but just for me, I don’t know. I think it’s it’s it’s not an indictment on Jones so much as it’s an indictment on the rest of that offense. And the point that you keep bringing up stephie which I wholeheartedly agree with. Jason Garrett that’s that’s a big issue that they have

Stephie 58:14
if he calls one more anger reverse. So Lord Almighty I can’t take it. But

Alex 58:23
I will say it’ll be interesting to see what he does with a healthy safe one, right? Like, if

58:28
anything

Alex 58:30
what they did in Dallas could work yeah, it’ll

Derek 58:34
be interesting to see how that plays out. To answer your your question there who I’m looking for my backup I’d be looking for guys like Kirk Cousins or a guy like Ryan Tannehill. Those two guys typically fall in the drafts.if not a fan of that one.

Stephie 58:49
You’re taking Kirk Cousins or Jones as your backup?

Alex 58:54
You should you should look at Kirk Cousins. That’s pretty stellar for fantasy. He’s like the sneakiest dude in fantasy.

Stephie 59:03
I Wow. Okay,

Derek 59:05
those are those are just two guys that always seem to fall every single year and yeah, they’re not so you’re right. He’s not mobile. I do like the weapons around him though. And the Vikings with that, you know, Kubiak 2.0 version, Office of scheme that’s going to be there. And the way that they do their their run zone gap blocking I really liked the fact that they’re able to establish a running game which then opens up the passing game which you’ve got. Makes Kirk Cousins look pretty good. And

Alex 59:39
also the Vikings Swiss cheese secondary leads to Kirk Cousins having to throw the football a lot more in the second half of games trying to play catch up.

Derek 59:47
Yeah, that would be the other thing too.

Stephie 59:50
So Dale Jones paid way less games and nearly always caught up to Kirk Cousins and fantasy points this year. I don’t think that Kirk Cousins is hot. You guys think I can’t stand Kirk cousins.

1:00:05
From his time in Washington, though?

1:00:07
Well, I’m looking at 2020. So feelings was tough. I don’t like her. I think her cousin is super like, don’t don’t get don’t don’t get Oh, yeah, I’m not a fan of Kirk Cousins. ways but the way that he puts up fantasy points that that I’m okay with. Yeah. To 4000 yards, 35 touchdowns last year. We’ll see how it goes. All righty. It could be a lot of fun. Very interesting. Something we’ll have to revisit later on. Yeah, for sure. They go the one of those that when I’m when I’m wrong, I expect you to call us out on the Twitter and be like, yeah, I told you Daniel Jones was better than Kirk Cousins

Stephie 1:00:46
I love to take the heat.

Derek 1:00:50
Love it. Well, guys, any final thoughts for the listeners?

Alex 1:00:54
No, it’s just fun. I appreciated the conversation. It’s a good time Steffi, thank you so much for coming on. Your Passion is awesome. I love it. I really really love it. Thank you so much for joining us.

Stephie 1:01:08
Yeah, no, seriously guys, it was a blast. I get it but you know supposedly it gets us all heated and now I’m gonna go balls deep in this fantasy world. It gets a little it gets a little bit spicier down here.

Kevin 1:01:23
No, absolutely appreciate you coming on.

Derek 1:01:25
Stephie Why don’t you go ahead and throw out your socials again for the listeners to be able to connect with you.

Stephie 1:01:30
Yeah, for sure. So asked me suppose the three L’s the three L’s stand for Tom Brady‘s three losses, two from the Giants one from Nick Foles we’re doing better. And that’s it. Everything else I work for ftn and you can find my stuff on there.

Derek 1:01:43
Awesome. Well, guys, I do believe that that’s gonna wrap up yet another episode of the good old boys fantasy football podcast. Make sure that you’re checking out the website goodoldboysff.com. You can find us on twitter instagram, facebook at @GoodOldBoysFF for Kevin Alex. I’m Derek Special thanks to Stephie for taking time and coming on. Have a good one. Be safe.
